Last Night's Action: Anemic in Atlanta

2009_06_girardi1.jpg

  • Braves 4, Yankees 0: They can't say they didn't have their chances. The Yankees left 11 men on bases in a dismal performance in the opener in Atlanta. Chien-Ming Wang looked better -- except for a four-batter stretch in the third -- but he wasn't good enough. Other than that third inning, in which all the damage was done with two outs, Wang looked like a Major League pitcher. Derek Jeter continued his unfortunate habit of hitting into double plays late in the game by ending the seventh, which was the Yankees' last real chance.

  • Cardinals 3, Mets 0: Two hits in nine innings. That's about all the offense the Mets could muster against Joel Pineiro, who threw a shutout. Livan Hernandez was good again, but that wasn't enough. This is the second time the Mets have made Pineiro look like an All-Star. Pineiro shouldn't get too carried away; this Mets lineup is basically David Wright and a bunch of stiffs.

the yankees game was sickening. but yeah, wang looked good save for the third...still, he has to go longer than five per start. he definitely wasn't the problem last night...

Wow the Yankees are getting thier asses handed to them by the NL East. The NL East is so dominating...well except for the METS...GO YANKEES!!!!

Funny pointing to Jeter hitting into double plays without mentioning that Fernando Tatis has hit into 317 of them this week alone. All he seems to do is hit hard grounders to the left side of the infield.
