Carbon Counter Goes Up (And Up)

Forget about that depressing national debt ticker, there's a new way to track our nation's (and planet's) inevitable collapse: the real-time carbon counter ticker! Yesterday Deutsche Bank "launched the world's first scientifically valid, real-time carbon counter, displaying the total of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere." It's located at 33rd Street and 7th Avenue, outside of Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. Maybe you'll see it as you pass by in your cab or SUV!

I sincerely hope that billboard is solar powered... if not, then yum yum! delicious irony...

How about a counter for snarky Gothamist comments?

Are you saying it's correct to power a sign to bring attention to the problem of wasteful consumption using electrical power that is causing some of the problem?

That would be like powering a lighted anti-abortion sign that is fueled by aborted fetuses.

are you sure this isn't the carb counter for Pizzeria Uno's menu?

'Scientifically valid?' Dont make me laugh. According to who? Al Gore. Its all coming to an end people...save the polar bears first.

Here is a big news flash...NOBODY GIVES A FUCK

According to SCIENTISTS you jackass.

Measuring the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere isn't that difficult, they have been monitored fairly accurately for decades.

It's more accurate to say YOU don't give a fuck. Plenty of other people do. Then again, I expect no less from you, given your history of hatred for Obama, Gore and any other "liberal."

Are there units given or is it just a number? Does it count the total carbon/greenhouse gases in the atmosphere or just that which is anthropogenically produced? Is this supposed to be helpful or just meant to cause alarm and further discourage intelligent conversation on the topic?

You could click on the link and find out for yourself. If you had, you would know that the number is total greenhouse gasses present in the atmosphere at this very moment measured in metric tons. The intent is to raise awareness on the issue and present it in concrete terms, because as evidenced by moronic comments such as those by Rolltide above, many people have no fucking idea.

Why don't they park that magic carbon counter down in Hudson Square and count all the carbon coming from the Holland tunnel and then stop that stupid three district garbage garage that will only add more to the area?
