Last Night's Action: Trading Each Other's Losers

  • Yankees 5, Nationals 3: Ah, interleauge play. Where teams get an extra cellar-dweller to play. When Anderson Hernandez got a hold of a CC Sabathia pitched and gave the Nationals a one-run lead, this looked like it could be quite embarrassing. But the Yankees rallied to tie the game and then took the lead on Robinson Cano's fourth hit of the day, a double. Sabathia's mistake to Hernadez was really his only one of the night. The Yankees really could use a sweep of the lowly Nationals, the worst team in baseball.

  • Mets 6, Orioles 4: Mike Pelfrey and the Mets found a team that also makes bumbling mistakes. Aubrey Huff dropped a popup that led to two unearned runs in the seventh inning. The Mets won by two runs. Call it even? Pelfrey lasted 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win, though he did walk three and strike out only two. Alex Cora had three hits, and David Wright had two—Wright's now hitting .365.

"Only" 2 strikeouts? Pelfrey's a ground ball pitcher, Tom. In fact, he set down the first 11 batters.

What's that? I can't hear you.

Hahaha, that was classic AvenueHebrew.

BTW the Mets got real lucky last night. Sloppy ending too, but a win is a win I guess.

Whew! Pelfrey looked good until the 5th. It was K-Rod who got lucky, walking in a run, etc. Yes, he inherited baserunners, but he's there to be the sniper.
