Poll: Bloomberg Leads, Even As A Picnic Guest

2009_06_mikepr.jpg A new Quinnipiac poll about the 2009 mayoral race finds, "Mayor Michael Bloomberg tops City Comptroller William Thompson, his chief Democratic challenger, 54 - 32 percent among New York City voters, who also say 62 - 28 percent that they'd rather chat with the Mayor at a July 4th picnic, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Even black voters would rather picnic with Bloomberg 52 - 37 percent." Some other interesting tidbits: Bloomberg has a 66% approval rating (up from 64% in March), but 56% of respondents think his campaign spending is "overkill" while 50% don't (vs. 42% who do) think Bloomberg is "out of touch" for saying Obama doesn't get paid much. Quinnipiac's Maurice Carroll said, "This latest survey shows the challenges Comptroller William Thompson faces as he tries to portray Mayor Michael Bloomberg as unlikable and out of touch, and as he tries to build a base of black voters. Black, white and Hispanic voters all would sooner share a July 4th hot dog and a beer with Mayor Mike than with Bill Thompson." Ah, the hot dog and beer mayoral test.

good luck trying to get the mayor to share a hotdog or beer with you. again with these dumb polls on who would you have a blank with?
unless you're one of his richie friends, he wants nothing to do with you, unless it's for a photo op.

I eagerly await the Bloomberg telvision ad where he is having a picnic with black, white and hispanic voters when I watch, "Two and a Half Men" on my9.

As much as I loath Bloomie, Thompson hasn't done anything to convince me he's going to do a better job. Thompson looks like he's very compromised with special interests the city cannot afford in the best of times.

I love Quinnipiac polls. Put me down for doing body shots off of Christine Quinn and quail hunting with Pedro Espada.

this is because he would round up the ants and have them gassed.

I don't like Bloomberg, but if he's paying for the picnic, why not?

Yuppie Aristocracy 2 (8 years of Prince Bush was the 1st score)
Democracy 0

These Traitors to America should be strung up.

I'm going to have to disagree here. Bloomberg is self-made, he didn't ride into office or riches on his daddy's coattails.

Despite whether you like him or not, I don't think you can compare him to Dubya. Bloomberg has a metric shitton of money because he was a competent businessman, not because he happened to fall out of a uterus with a famous last name.

if bloomberg was so smart why didn't he see the economic downturn coming? why did he rely on developments?
developments like the stuy town turnover, atlantic yards, coney island etc etc.
and to those who say Thompson has nothing? why?
is he not going to put cops in the streets or firemen in the firehouses?

He is the 8th richest man in America

You honestly want to lie to yourself and say that he is not part of the aristocracy.

Lineage is one thing but money is another - still the other half (one 1% as the case may be)

Quinnipiac manufactures reality for their client.
If New Yorkers show up to vote, Bloomberg will be gone. If they stay home like the morons they've been for the past 2 mayoral elections, we'll get the arrogant billionaire again.
Bloomberg has been elected with ridiculous low number of votes, less the second time than the first. media silence, apathy of the public are his allies - besides mucho dineros.

I wouldn't want to chat with either of them. Good God, but Bloomberg is an old stuffed shirt.

"Ah, the hot dog and beer mayoral test."
Yeah, we all know how well picking your political leaders by whether you felt like you'd like to drink a beer with them worked out for the Presidency.
