Yesterday morning, two men were stabbed in the lobby of an apartment building on East 26th Street near Second Avenue in Manhattan. According to the Daily News, it's believed the suspects were "Gang members looking to avenge the shooting of a drug dealer... Investigators believe five men were waiting in parked cars outside the... building and jumped their victims when they stepped into the lobby just before 9:30 a.m." An 18-year-old died while a 30-year-old survived his stab wounds—both were stabbed repeatedly in the face and chest. The incident that spurred that stabbing is apparently a 4 a.m. shooting that occurred outside Pacha on West 46th Street; suspected drug dealer Michael Slater is in stable condition at Bellevue, which is just a few blocks away from the apartment building. A 21-year-old newcomer to the neighborhood told the News, "I moved here from Missouri yesterday. I didn't expect to step outside on my first morning here and see someone almost dead."

good, go the fuck back to missouri
really -
I love how that last line was snuck in there like that. How does a 21 year old from Missouri even afford to live over there?
Some people, even young ones from Missouri get a thing called a "job" where they make money to pay for things like rent. Or, their parents that can afford the rent.
When I read the piece above, I knew the first comment would be about the kid from Missouri, rather than the shooting.
My sympathies to the people who were stabbed in retaliation for shooting someone.
I somehow forgot to include that despite all the spare time I have without a "job" wishing my poor parents could pay my rent.
Maybe he's a student? There's an NYU dorm just down the block from there (nearer the corner of 1st Avenue). I know because I lived here my first year in NYC back in 1992.
Neighborhood sucked then, and it still sucks now.
shut up. Should people who move here expect to see someone almost dead on their first day? Give Kenneth a break.
Why do you care? Man, people are so harsh. Poor kid is just a little shaken up. No one wants to see a dead body, no matter where they happen to live.
Yeah get used to it honey. I've been here 4 years and have seen 3 corpses. One of which was my neighbor after she was run over by the M15.
OMG—that's terrible.
Really? I've never seen a corpse in my entire life living here. I mean I've had opportunities to do so especially during 9/11 but when I think "should I see this life alternating event which will be extremely gruesome and traumatizing and haunt me for the rest of my natural life depriving me of lost innocence?" that's when I choose not to look.
Yep. The first was my elderly neighbor, who I witnessed be killed by an M15 that ran a red light. The second was the homeless guy who lived outside my work, who was lying there dead when I came into work one day. The third was admittedly being placed into a body bag when I saw him - I think someone shot him?
The only one that was really innocence-killing was my neighbor. The worst part was that nothing happened to the bus driver who killed her.
I saw an elderly man run over and killed by an M14 between 1st and Ave A. I think I was twelve at the time.
haha...Pacha, where you can't tell the guidos from the gays.
So, not a leftover from the Puerto Rican Day Parade?
I used to live next to that building - there's an NYU dorm, which is probably where the Missouri-an lives. Years ago when I lived there four people were shot right outside of that building 5 minutes after I walked by them. It's a dodgy corner in an otherwise very safe neighborhood.
If the two guys were involved in shooting a drug dealer why wasn't one of them packing heat at the time of the stabbing?
Welcome to New York son, this ain't Branson. Do the Osmonds still have their theater down there? All teeth, smiles, hair and happy faces. You'all enjoy your stay in NYC, you hear now?
Ya don't see many dead bodies in Missourah 'cause the 'coons git to 'em before the undertaker arrives.
Maybes if I bring my blue tick hound dog, youse and I can get some goose huntin done this weekend. What say?
Your truck or mine?
Yaaa-Hooo!
Much of this stuff happens after 2AM -- lesson is to stay off the streets after 2AM unless you are with more than just a few people.
it does seem like an odd place for a gang fight -- but the nearby NYU dorm explains it.
It was at 9:30am.
More likely to be bc of the projects on the west side of 2nd ave, not the NYU dorm.
what "gang" affiliations were they?
and on a Sunday? isn't that the new party night?
It was yesterday (Monday) morning.
Does anyone actually read the details in these posts?
my mistake, I was away for the weekend.
however, the post mentioned the incident was spurred the stabbing was at 4AM and the stabbers waited till 9:30 am for the victims.
I always find it funny when people say "go back to BLAH" when this stuff happens. I had to deal with way more crime before I moved to new york. So i'll stay.
Gotta keep it gangsta style especially in the summer.
And it's only mid June and the weather has been cool. I thought this stuff only happened in the outer boros and above 110th street.
Boogie nights!!! Oh, oops!!! Boogie down!!!
My ten-year-old son and I witnessed a shooting at this corner this past Fall at 6PM at night. Two men came running out of the building firing guns at each other. We literally had to hide behind a brick wall while the bullets flew. Both men ended up shot (maybe this was the shooting described above? We never got any details about what happened.) The police later told us this neighborhood (East 26th to East 30th, between 1st and 2nd Avenues) is now one of the most dangerous in the entire city. I live nearby and stay clear of this area now.
A few things here. Your son will remember that incident for the rest of his life and tell it over and over again and embellish it with a few extra details and as he gets older, reflect back to the "good old days."
The cop, like all cops, was a bullshitter. No way is the east twenties "one of the most dangerous in the entire city." If this area is so violent all it would take is five cops to patrol the five streets so indicated. One cop per block. Is that so hard for them to understand? Probably so.
Maybe not as bad as some areas of the Bronx or Brooklyn, but I would say this area could be one of the worst in Manhattan. I used to live there last year, and it was shady as hell sometimes. Lots of crazy crackheads around there, and it's right next to Bellevue, so that's just asking for trouble. I live way up town in Inwood now, and actually feel safer then down in that area.
4AM shooting outside a dump like Pacha? Why am I not surprised? I recently changed my jogging route because that place is so gross and sketchy even in broad daylight.
I seen two body's in my 8 here stint here. A jumper on 14th and 6th.
And one on my street 22 and 11 the OPUS club shooting. Is wierd walking on those
two places to me.
The only dead body I saw in all the years I've been in New York was a guy in the middle of the street alongside a car. It appears he was overweight caused by the amount of lead in his body that was delivered by the NYPD. The dude was involved in a payroll heist just up the street from NYPD internal affairs office. There were also lots of holes in the car he was trying to carjack.
20 years in NY, no corpses. And I live a block away from this incident. Maybe I should leave my apartment more often.
I saw a woman get run over by the R train back in 1986 - they got MOST of her up by the time they moved the train, but there was a thighbone with meat hanging off it on the track that they wern't able to reach before they moved the train (it looked just like a chicken thighbone when you've eaten most of the meat off of it but a few scraps remain - only it was bigger...person sized)
And when I was working around Ground Zero I used to see the firefighters looking for bone fragments - but they were TINY, they hardly looked like body parts at all.
