Plaxico Burress made his way into Manhattan criminal court this morning where a judge adjourned his weapons possession case until September. A grand jury will decide whether to indict Burress for last fall's shooting mess at nightclub Latin Quarter by September 23rd, marking the end of any potential plea deal trying to be worked out by his high-profile lawyer Benjamin Brafman. Brafman said, "There is no victim in this case besides Plaxico Burress."

Brafman sounded more like Plax's agent Drew Rosenhaus outside court today. He told reporters, "Physically he's in the best shape of his life. He's ready to play...Given the present posture of his case, I do not see any reason why he should not be able to play this entire season."

Now the big question remains if the Jets will roll the dice and make a move for Burress. They are said to be one of three teams (the others being the Bears and the Bucs) who have expressed interest in the troubled receiver. While today's adjournment leaves his schedule open for a few months, the NFL could still suspend Plax on violating their conduct policy. One GM told the News, "It's buyer beware. You are going to have to go forward and sign him and wait for the commissioner to rule on it. He's not going to tell you ahead of time. This one is a mess."
