She stopped by last night and tells us they started "shooing everyone away" at 9:45 p.m., so keep that in mind. The first section runs from Gansevoort Street, in the Meatpacking District, to West 20th Street, in Chelsea, between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues; here are details about the access points.
As pretty as the park is, the Friends of the High Line are worried that one-third of the High Line could still be demolished. The group is urging people to attend a Community Board 4 public forum on the Western Rail Yards tonight at 6:30 p.m. A developer wants to construct a mixed-use structure over the 26-acre rail yards site, and proposed zoning changes do not legally require that particular section of the High Line to be preserved. Advocates want the city to take ownership of the High Line at the Rail Yards, as it did with the portion below 30th Street. More info on that here.

So it's a crowded cement path with flowers and grass on the sides planted to resemble what the thing looked like before, except all nice and nouveau meat-packy? Maybe the photos don't do it justice. Looks like an outdoor hotel lobby to me. Perfect.

So how did this get built in 3 years when there's glass on the pavement and broken water fountains in parks in southern Queens? If you want to talk about Manhattan, High Bridge Park has been a hellhole for years.
The High Line looks dandy, though. I'll be there soon, no doubt.

Probably because most of this was funded privately, doubt those parks in queens have wealthy neighbors. And it is quite awesome, was there on Tuesday and loved the views
