Yesterday, smoke escaped from the former Deutsche Bank building on Liberty Street—the Daily News reports, "It turned out the smoke was from a battery-powered forklift that overheated about 4 a.m. Firefighters simply unplugged it." And while firefighters were on the scene, they found that a switch for an air-filtration system (you know, to keep toxic air—the building is full of debris from the 9/11 attacks— from escaping the building) wasn't working, so work was halted. The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, which is overseeing the demolition of the building, believes the building will be decontaminated by July and ready for demolition in January. In 2007, a seven-alarm fire, started by a worker's cigarette, killed two firefighters and, in 2006, it was hoped the building would be gone by...2007.

Perhaps we should just explode the thing. Seems like all the toxins are getting out anyway, why not take care of the problem in one fell swoop?
Should we at least tell the workers nearby to duck for cover?
Or use it to replace GITMO. No terror suspect would ever want to languish at "Deutsche".
Lower Manhattan Development Corporation should be fined - and the project manager should be fired! This is crazy to think of just how many red flags one building could raise!
put one of those giant tents up implode the thing and be done with it...
Shea Stadium was demolition in what 6 months and this building is still standing from 2001!? Shows you where the priorities are in this city or state.
I think Shea was a lot easier to deal with, given that there weren't as many structures around the old stadium. It could be torn down with ease. With the Deutsche bank building it seems very tricky.
It can't be turn down, it has to be dismantled piece by piece. Cutting through steal and so on.
Aren't these folks paid to do this work? And they're so consistently inept? Sounds like it's time to enact performance payments and penalties.
Can't they just have the Mossad finish the job?
