Little Leaguer Hit By Stray Bullet Doing "Fine"

2009_06_dkelly.jpg Thank goodness: The mother of the 11-year-old boy whose head was hit by a bullet says her son is fine. Devante Kelly had been waiting to play his Little League game at Starrett City in Brooklyn when an apparently stray bullet hit him. Andrea Walters said of son Devante Kelly, "He's fine, I just want everyone to know he's fine and not to worry. He was up and talking through the whole thing like it was nothing." According to the NY Times, the bullet "traveled under the skin for less than an inch, and then come to rest against the skull, hitting it with enough force to put a small depression or dent in it but not enough to break it." Brookdale Hospital neurosurgeon Dr. Louis G. Cornacchia said, "This was as an act of God that this child was not more severely injured. This is not the result of my gifted hands. He was saved long before I ever entered the picture." Devante's mother said she hopes her son will be back to playing soon—she doesn't want him to be afraid—and City Councilman Charles Barron said, "Anybody that has information on this, if you don't want to snitch, tell me - I'll snitch. This is very, very sickening in our community."

Yoiks. Must have been either a ricochet or fired from quite a distance to have most of its energy expended so it only penetrated the skin and not the skull.

I would say he's a lucky kid but I guess that doesn't really make sense - if he was truly lucky he wouldn't have gotten hit by a stray bullet in the first place.

I believe that Frank Costello was shot at short range and the bullet traveled around his head just underneath the skin and came to rest between his skull and his skin. So it's hard to determine where the shot came from in this incident.

Happened to a friend of mine too. The bullet, which was small calibre, cavitated around the skull and exited behind his ear. He didn't even know. Someone else pointed out the blood.

What a story. A very lucky kid.

When they catch the guy who pulled the trigger, they should stick a gun up his ass and pull the trigger, and plot the bullet's path.

Where is Al Sharpton when it matters? He should do something when innocent people get shot by low lives. He should fight to get all illegal guns off of the street if he cares about black communities so much.

The magical Sharpton genie hides in its bottle when black folk do mean stuff like shoot little leaguers, kill Ecuadorian immigrants with baseball bats, protest gay marriage, etc.

Now now. Big Al has to stay focused on certain issues that he already knows. So anything other than those he doesn't want to get involved because he will have to change his rhetoric. Plus he's setting up a scholarship fund for women named Tawana in honor of his greatest client.

Like I wrote a couple of days ago, it's sickening that innocent people like this kid get shot and sometimes killed for no reason while people like Cheyenne Cherry continue to walk the streets. There's no justice.

It is sickening that these random acts of violence continue, but at the same time this tribal bullshit that afro american blacks cling on to for decades upon decades feed this kind of bullshit.

Look at Africa and tell me if there is or was ever a culture that made progress over spear chucking and beating up on another tribe?

No wonder that the white, the asian, the hispaic, or any intelligent culture shuns them.
