The Daily News has some more details about Cheyenne Cherry, the 17-year-old accused of killing her friend's (or ex-roommate's or ex-lover's) kitten by baking it in a 200-degree oven. Cherry was arrested in 2008 after her "boyfriend snatched the pooch from a woman in a Bronx park... after holding a BB gun to her forehead" (Cherry had "friends show up with the dog when a $500 reward was posted"). Also in 2008, she robbed a man of his iPod at gunpoint, claiming it was a "joke," which is what she said of the kitten killing and, in 2007, she was busted for "smacking a girl in the head with jewelry." In spite of her history, she was released without bail after being charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, arson, burglary and criminal mischief for the incident killing Tiger Lily the kitten and damaging the friend's apartment. The owner of the teacup Yorkie that Cherry and her boyfriend stole told the News, "They wonder why this little girl doesn't learn right from wrong. If she's willing to kill a cat and steal my dog, what else will she do? She thinks she can beat the system."

Agreed. There are a lot of good reasons to lock up people who harm animals like this -- but perhaps the best reason is that they're often going to progress to harming humans. So make the penalties for these crimes super-harsh, and maybe we can lock the fucker up before she starts stuffing bodies in crawlspaces.

And again, in case anyone ever thinks of doing it on Gothamist or any other blog in the future, DO NOT post in a comment anybody's personal information that you get out of the phone book or from a Google, Anywho or other directory search. The article notes some poor woman with the same surname got phone threats after address and phone number were posted on a blog, as it was posted here. I can't remember who posted it, but you should be ashamed. You can't be sure it's the same person and even if it is the same person, you have no right to incite others to contact her. Let the legal system do its work. (Besides, if you even thought about it a few seconds, you'd know how ridiculous it was to assume it was the girl's listing. It's obviously a land line and no 17-year-old has an old-fashioned, voice-only land line nowadays. If she has a phone, it'll be a cell phone with camera, SMS and all the other gewgaws.)
I think it's also against the law to do that. Or maybe I heard there was legislation being introduced to make it illegal. Anyway, it's just plain wrong to do it.

This is SO the girl that eventually kills her baby because the crying was annoying or as revenge for a stepping-out-dad. Either way, lock up the trash now or patiently wait for her dead kid to surface, as long as when it does, no one acts surprised.
