Woman Trapped In Subway Turnstile, Robbed

2009_06_turnstile.jpg Yikes: The police say that a woman was robbed at the Halsey Street subway station in Brooklyn on May 24. WABC 7 reports, "The woman was reportedly exiting the station at Wycoff Avenue and George Street through the high turnstile exit when a suspect, armed with a screwdriver, grabbed the bars and trapped the woman inside. He then stole the victim's property and fled in an unknown direction." The incident occurred around 1 a.m.

These high entrance exit turnstiles are also called "Iron Maidens." Our readers have also called them the "Baby Back Ribs of Death" and "meat grinders." They are present at entrances where there are no station agents; in 2007, there was concern that they are unsafe and may violate fire codes.

WABC 7 says the robber, who taunted the woman and made lewd gestures, "is described as a black man between the ages of 40 and 45. He is approximately 6-foot tall." Police are asking anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers 800-577-TIPS, to visit the CrimeStoppers website or to text info to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

It's like that scene in "The Godfather" where the assassin jams the revolving door that a guy is walking through and then shoots through the glass and kills him.

We call em two-fers. You can easily fit two people through these.

Nah that's just the minimum Me and my friends have fit about 3 or 4 through. but we're all rather skinny, so…

Thanks for the pic and an accurate perp description.

Thank you. I'll never be able to go through one of these again without thinking "Baby Back Ribs of Death."

Piece of rubbish. Find him, lock him up, and lose the key.
