Driver Killed After Crashing Into Two Homes

2009_06_flcrs.jpg Around 12:40 a.m. this morning, a 21-year-old driver in a Toyota Camry was "killed when his out of control car flipped through the air and careened into two homes" in Flushing, Queens, according to WABC 7. It's suspected that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed as he drove along the eastbound Horace Harding Expressway. WABC 7 adds, "The Camry flipped into the air, hurtled over two parked cars, and took down a street sign as it crashed into the front of a house on 61st Road." No one else was injured; one of the homes' residents told PIX News, "I heard a bang and the whole house shook," adding the car was completely in flames. Residents also say that this part of the Horace Harding Expressway, which is a service road for the LIE, has had many accidents; in fact, PIX News reports that one of the homes damaged today was also hit by a car 10 years ago.

Personally I think, police controlling busy traffic are the best way to reduce deadly crashes. The only downside is, when you get caught for doing the no-no's e.g. exceeding speed limit, or speaking on the phone not hands free they might be asking you for 'something else' indirectly to keep away from from giving you tickets. Possibly this article ought to help the readers to reduce automobile accidents if not by much: Young Killed

  • Red Coat Guy

Teens should not drive. They are the cause of most accidents, killing themselves and others. I know he is 21 y/o. Raise the driving age to 25. Learning permits with restrictions to all ages under 25.

With it raining last night and the speed it's no surprise a young driver lost control. I would imagine he was going over 70mph+.

  • Potty Boy

Good. One less menace on the road.

i thought camry owners were the pleated khaki, golf-loving, family types. not the balls to the wall, speed demon set.

    i stand corrected.

All I can say is that I'm glad he wasn't on a bicycle! Can you imagine the kind of death and mayhem that would have ensued from another two-wheeled menace?

On a non-sarcastic side-note: I had a a friend who drove through a house in his car; nobody was injured, and he was released on the scene with a ticket for reckless driving. He would say that the money his family had to pay to fix the house as well as the fact that his insurance rates went through the roof were punishment enough, to which I disagree to this day - he should've gone to jail.

  • Kojak

Why jail? Was he drunk or was he indeed reckless? It could have been an accident by what your saying.

  • MrManhattan

After all, we don't know all the facts.

Maybe the house ran out from between parked cars.

Hit by a car twice within 10 years? How does the insurance company figure out the premium for car-related damage to the home?

  • Mr Mel

    You bet they do.

  • Global Wombat

Living around the area, I can't say that I'm surprised by this at all.
