Tis the season for outdoor drinking, and it looks like some folks created a nice setup at 1071 Manhattan Avenue. Liquor within walking distance: check. Tree: check. Seating: check. Table: check. Tulips: check check check. Just be discreet. Miss Heather spotted the street furniture, and says, "whoever designed and executed this, the best tree pit in Brooklyn, deserves some real and lasting recognition be it from our municipal government or the design community as a whole." Agreed. In fact, perhaps the city should commission some creative folks to dress up more tree pits around town. If you want to take matters in to your own hands, here's the Parks Departments guide on how to care for tree pits, and maybe next year yours can be the greenest block.

    What, country dogs don't pee?

I am so sick of city dogs.

Perhaps if the tree pit is clearly defined as also being a seating area, the rude dog owners will manage to steer away and actually CURB their animals. Dog pee and shit everywhere is NOT OKAY.

If you look closely at the photos, you can see that this one has wire mesh around it to keep dogs out. Good idea.

doesn't keep the pee out though. In fact, it probably does a great job of dispersing all over the entire thing.

There's a sculptor in my neighborhood who has adorned the tree pits on his block with all kinds of cook shit, including antique steel tractor seats, knobs and handles and stuff. They look cool, and you can indeed sit there and chill if you want. Problem is people's dogs piss on tree pits a lot, so it's a kinda stinky place to sit. I love dogs, but they should be banned in NYC, like in Liberty City.
