Man Loses Leg After Livery Cab Crashes Into Him

2009_06_millbasv.jpg Doctors are trying to reattach a Brooklyn man's leg after a terrible crash in Mill Basin last night. 1010 WINS reports that a livery "cab traveling on E57th Street south of Avenue L around 7:45 p.m. swerved to avoid a car pulling out from a driveway on the right side of the road and slammed into the man who was across the street putting his child in a car-seat." A neighbor told the Post, "I saw the cab swerve and the next thing you know his leg was down the street. He was on the ground totally quiet." Neighbors apparently helped by putting the leg on ice and the man was taken to Bellevue Hospital. The baby was slightly injured.

I love Brooklyn, but the most *impatient* people on earth live there. It's not just the cabbies driving like crazy.

No, maiming and killing is done by all sorts of NYC drivers.

  • Brooklyn

I'm going to bet stupidity all around here -- the cab is a typical car-service mongoloid racing 50mph down residential streets. At the same time, I bet the Benz in the photo was double-parked, and Dad was fetching Junior out of the car seat on the street side, leaving his ass hanging out like a bullseye.

Oh, and this will probably be an insurance nightmare. Or not even an insurance issue, since surely there's not a New York State license plate to be seen anywhere in this neighborhood -- plenty of Pennsylvania, Florida or North Carolina. From the address, this isn't the brightest side of Brooklyn.

From the pic he was obviously not double parked and was getting the child out on the street side. I know it makes one feel safer to point out how dumb the victim was, but we all have to behave with some trust for our fellow man.

In general, trust in the worst from your fellow man. Anything better is gravy.
