Reporters Don't Give Bloomberg A Disgraceful Break

2009_06_bloombaw.jpg Of course: Mayor Bloomberg calls a reporter a disgrace one day, then on the following days, other reporters want to ask him about it on other days! In the days since Observer and PolitickerNY reporter Azi Paybarah's question about the Bloomberg's decision to overturn term limits was rebuffed by the mayor—who called Paybarah "a disgrace"—Bloomberg has been called third worst person in the world by Keith Olbermann, was described as reaching "new heights of peevishness" by the NY Times and, today, was asked by a Thomson-Reuters reporter, "Do you think it’s disgraceful for reporters in an open society to ask questions of people in power about their actions and motives?

Paybarah reports that the Mayor answered, “I think we’re beyond that. Let's get on to the next thing," (which is what he said yesterday to a similar question) before emphasizing his new strategy of answering campaign-related questions at campaign events. Still, Rafael Martinez-Alequin managed to toss out, "Do you know the meaning of the word ‘disgrace’ in Spanish?"

Today, the NY Times has a story on Bloomberg's very candid nature, which the mayor chalks up to, "I am 67 years old. I am who I am."

Don't worry, he'll be out of office soon cause he's been mayor for awhile.

Oh shit. He changed the rules.

Gotta love what this countries become: Small government on the state and local level, to a behemoth on both levels with the Mayor of NYC thinking he's the fucking king.

I've watched plenty of these spats and I always see the cronies in the back smirk.
except for the time the handicapped guy dropped his recorder or phone and gary ackerman make a disgusted look.
of course, goia and diblasio got admonished by the bully for their facial disapproval of the mayor's speeches.

He really stepped in it. I guess he's been too busy catering to developers and tourists and forgot that real New Yorkers don't take this shit. I hope the press never lets this go.

Why does this prick even hold press conferences if he won't acknowledge the questions people ask? Why the charade?

Because it makes the reporter look like a tough ballbuster who's doing his/her job?
Because it could make Blommie say something stupid he can only wish he could take back?
Because it can shape the debate and the election?
Because it's fun?

Bloomie has to appear in public and address the press.
Politicians who don't are on their way out of office or off to prison.

Arrogant bastid. Always good for a music video tho...

He reminds me of that asshole trust fund "friend" who pays for just as many free drinks as it takes to buy your tolerance.

It's funny. Everytime Gothamist has a post about Bloomberg everyone (including/especially me)comments about how hateful he is. Can we not organize and drive the dissenters out of town? Oh wait, Bloomberg's started for us (w. Golisano & Limbaugh and other tax haters running away).

We need this guy more now that we needed continuity weeks after 9/11? This piece of crap is thisclose to being worse than Napoleon. Let's get him out once and for all already.

Bravo!! I wish he could server 3 more terms. Thanks to him we will never have to suffer through Dicky Weiner being mayor.

It's the same media that NEVER mentioned Muslims' hatred of Israel as a possible motive for 9/11.
