Bar Tini Opens Soon in Park Slope

09_05_tano_tonno_bar.jpg Bar Tini, the third European-style cafe from restaurateur Peter Sclafani, is beginning to look like it'll be open soon. The paper covering the windows at the Eighth Avenue, Park Slope spot has come down and several interior details can be gleaned (if you cup your hands around your eyes like a creepy bastard and press your face against the front window, like we did). Mirrors and alternating low light sconces line the walls, there's an old worldish pressed tin ceiling and a long bar, hence the name.

In short, the space—formerly home to Pumpkins Organic Market—is looking pretty handsome. Like Sclafani's other restaurants Bar Tano and Bar Toto, the new spot will offer Italian food throughout the day and will turn more full-fledged wine and cocktail place as the hour gets late. Bar Tano sells a grapefruit and vodka concoction called The Gowanus, so the neighborhood should rally for a drink called The Bartel-Pritchard, named for two friends (and WWI casualties) whose names are also on a nearby memorial.

Bar Tini "will open at 7 a.m., so you can get a cappuccino and stand at the bar and talk to your neighbors," Sclafani told The Brooklyn Paper last December.

Pumpkin's is gone? Oh noes! That always looked like a nice grocery. I never shopped there though. Maybe I should have.

Given the number of smashed car windows along 13th Street in the last few weeks, perhaps not the smartest time to open a cafe with humongous windows. Or at least to not have a security gate on, which they either don't have or don't use. That thing is a giant prelude to a flying rock in the middle of the night. Come for the European cuisine, stay for conversation with Wash & Dry's proprietor and electrical/mechanical maniac, Stephen.
