Our li'l hero of the day goes out to Dennis Reynolds, a 14-year-old from Staten Island who has the Department of Education backtracking after being sent home for arriving at school today with the most badass haircut seen in quite some time. The Great Kills eighth grader says that he was sent home from Barnes Intermediate School because administration wasn't fond of his Vice Do. Reynolds told the SI Advance,"The assistant principal told me my hair cut wasn't good enough." The school says that he will be let back in tomorrow, but they thought that he must have secretly shaved off half his head last night while sleeping over at a friend's. Quite the contrary—his mom was totally down! She said, "If a Mohawk is allowed, everything else should be allowed...It's better than wearing his pants hanging down. That I won't tolerate." The youngster, who we predict will have a facial tat by his sweet sixteenth says that he plans to get a star shaved in the hair that's left. When asked why half a haircut, he said, "I didn't want to go completely bald."

Shame on school administration for making this otherwise boring and meaningless story appear newsworthy.
Better than that old Ebony and Ivory crazy half-mine get up the kids would do.
Um..."mime" .......God I... RUIN EVERYTHING....such an IDIOT.
Give the kid some slack. He got a haircut so he could be ready for his summer job interviews.

If Kevin Seconds and Steve Youth only knew what kind of influence they've been on these Staten Island kids!
you know this kid will be doing some hood rat stuff soon. he's out there waiting to pounce! watch your back!
Just send him to prison now and save some effort.
racists...
That's the coolest haircut I've seen in a loooooong time!
Holy **** - a friend of mine did the exact same thing in high school... 20 years ago. He also got sent home, but it was a parochial school, and we had to wear jackets and ties and weren't allowed to have facial hair. So, it wasn't like he didn't know he was heading home. He came back the next day completely shaved.
Kids also used to come to school with lines in their hair, a la the Boz. They were sent home as well, forced to get a proper fade. Stone Cold!
Ah come on, the school people were trying to do the right thing.
No wonder Gothamist allows such racist comments on its blog--Billy Parker's comment that the kid will get a tattoo on his face by his sixteenth birthday makes no sense and reveals its own naturalized intolerance. A freaky, non-conformist hairdo is more likely to get you jumped than anything else. Not even the bloggers at Gothamist got his back. This kid should be encouraged for going his own way, even if a mob of Gothamist trolls wants him (and everyone else) to be just like them.
Yeah I thought the face tattoo comment was in poor taste too. At least the kid looks clean, I've seen kids this age with stinky greasy dreadlocks. Who cares if he wants to shave half of his head?
I really like facial tattoos.
It's a gang thing.
