Local Fans Hope Magic NY Hat Will Lead LeBron to Gotham

2009_06_lebron.jpg As soon as LeBron James huffed and puffed his way off of the court following the Cavs' elimination from the playoffs Saturday night, you may have noticed a spike in the humidity with the collective panting from Knick fans now eager to begin luring the megastar toward Madison Square Garden with one year remaining until he is eligible for free agency.

While LeBron was so distraught following the loss to the Magic that he refused to talk to reporters (or even shake hands with the Magic), yesterday he continued his noncommittal stance saying, "I haven't thought about it just yet. I'm just going to take time off from basketball and not think about contracts or the game, period."

But the Post notes that he said it while wearing a Yankee cap. Could his secret coding be any clearer?! Regardless, the next date to begin serious speculation is July 18th, the first day the Cavs can offer LeBron a contract extension. Coming off a season where they had the best record in the NBA, Cleveland is expected to have some more cap muscle themselves and may make a move to put LeBron one step closer to his dynasty dreams.

Why in the hell would LeBron want to play for the Knicks?

BECUZ THIS IS THE BEST FUCKEN CITY IN THE WORLD> WHY WOULDN'T ANYONE WHOSE THE BEST AT WHAT THEY DO NOT LIVE HERE. ALL YOU FUCKEN IDAHO CRACKERS MAKE ME LAUGH

He's not going anywhere. Certainly not to the Knicks!

Yeah LeBron has enough cash for a blinged out lifetime. I'm not sure if any enormous salary will entice him to come to the hell hole known as MSG. He's looking for a championship ring, something he won't find with the Knicks.

I would prefer that Madison Square Garden pays its fair share of taxes first.

unfortunately, among the list of things that would have to happen for LeBron to come to NYC is "#42. Hell freezes over"

remember when jordan tried to play baseball?

This may come as a shock to the intrepid reporters at the Post, but the Knicks ain't the freakin' Yankees.

And seeing as how the NBA has maximum salaries, the Knicks (32-50) can't offer any more money than the Cavaliers (66-16) could, and most certainly, will.

the NY-LA, Kobe-Lebron match-up would be interesting.

A good part of the Cavaliers are going to be free agents or have player's options to stay another year, or not. LeBron might be on a much weaker team if he stays with the Cavaliers.

If I were Lebron I'd be aiming at the few teams in the league with competent GMs: Detroit, San Antonio, LA, Miami and NY. And given those five and NY's automatic DQ due to the Dolans, I'd pick LA or Miami in a heartbeat.

Even LeBron couldn't make the Knicks winners. The Dolans would have to sell the team to the Harlem Globetrotters, who would rename them the Washington Capitals.

I see Lebron playing for the Nets long before I'd ever see him sign with the dysfunctional Knicks. Heck, I'd see him playing in OKC before NYC.

ANGRYGOD11 said LeBron might be on a much weaker team if he stays with the Cavaliers.
Then again, maybe they will sign better players. Who wouldn't want to play with Lebron?

Every team with a superstar dreams the same thing.
Jordan had to wait 6 years for his first championship ring. And how long did Kobe play on mediocre Lakers teams during post-champion Shaq rebuilding? Some superstars never get the ring ( I'm looking at you, Sir Charles).

Very true. Patrick Ewing came oh so close but...

Didn't the Lakers wipe the floor with King James a few years ago? Don't they they could have won this time even if they made the finals.

I guess this saves them the embaressment of being taken out 4-0 by the Lakers again.
