- One year ago today, a crane collapsed at a construction site at First Avenue and 91st Street in Manhattan, killing two people. One of the victims' parents traveled from Kosovo to visit a makeshift shrine today.
- An NYU student filmmaker was electrocuted and another seriously injured on a movie set in Georgia. Authorities say "John Hunt Lamensdorf... who was setting up lights about 100 yards away from the truck in the rear of the house, was pronounced dead" at a hospital in Atlanta.
- President Obama believe federal judge Sonia Sotomayor will be confirmed to the Supreme Court and referred to some of the chatter as "pulling a few comments out of context to paint a distorted picture."
- The Daily News says a "drug-addicted wacko" who "set fires under cars, heaved rocks through stained glass church windows, masturbated in front of kids, stalked seniors and threatened children with nail-studded clubs" on the Upper West Side in the 1990s escaped his hospital in Queens. He was found on West End Avenue last night.

- New ID rules for travel to Canada and Mexico will go into effect on June 1.
- Kate Hudson reportedly stayed with Alex Rodriguez at his Dallas hotel after his game with the Texas Rangers.
- Conan O'Brien (oh, how we've missed you!) was Jay Leno's guest on Leno's final Tonight Show taping. O'Brien described the weird paparazzi in Los Angeles and the big shoes he's filled—see it here, part 1 and part 2.
- And a street dance group defeated Susan Boyle to win Britain's Got Talent. Boyle was gracious in defeat and said, "I hope to get an album out - I'll just play it by ear."
