In an Op-Ed in today's Times explaining his aborted mayoral campaign, Rep. Anthony Weiner explains that, unsurprisingly, Mayor Bloomberg's godly fortune had a little something to do with it: "The Supreme Court decision in 1976 in Buckley v. Valeo, which allows candidates to spend however much they want on their own races, makes it possible for billionaires to swamp middle-class candidates. In this case, a sports analogy is apt: If one football team has 110 players on the field, the team with 11 has a hard time getting through the blocking and tackling on the crowded turf."
But besides Bloomberg's obscene wealth, another obstacle facing Weiner was the increasing alignment of Democratic party leaders around Controller William Thompson. The Queens Democratic organization voted to back Thompson on Tuesday, one day after the head of the Queens Democrats, Rep. Joe Crowley, reportedly told Weiner "he could be mayor someday—but not this year."
Oh well, this just means Weiner will have more time to "fight for New Yorkers" (and fashion models!) in Congress, play some hockey, hang with Affleck, and, in Weiner's words, "build a family." But will Clinton aide and Weiner paramour Huma Abedin be his subcontractor on that construction project?

bowing to bloomie's money already? what a weiney!
What a tool. Easier to criticize Bloomberg than accept the reality that your own party doesn't think much of you. He pulled about 29 percent of the primary vote in 2005.
William Thompson is the COMPTROLLER of The City of New York, not the CONTROLLER. Yet another expertly proof read article from the professionals at Gothamist.
Controller is an accepted variation. In fact, that's the standard usage at some papers like the Daily News. Get a life!
spelled: comptroller
pronounced: controller
Did you click on the dude's link? Both spellings are correct.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comptroller
In general, both spellings may be correct, but "Comptroller" is a proper noun as used here because it's the official name of the office to which Thompson was elected. "Thomson" and "Thompson" may be variations of the same name too but you'd be incorrect if you spelled the NYC Comptroller's name "Thomson" too.
Savagely PWND!
This bullshit is seriously out of comptrol.
I am sorry to say that Bloomberg gets what he wants and this city is paying a high cost for his whims. I hope Avella or Thompson wins but my whole neighborhood is filled with Bloomberg pamphlets and signs. I can't read the Daily News or Post with Bloomberg Ads appearing. Sickening.
He's a disgusting little man with a Napoleon complex that makes Rudy look cuddly. Anyone that votes for this guy is a moron. He's "such a great businessman" than why didn't NY fare better in the recession? How is our state any better for Bloomie running it?
I've been waiting 8 years to find out.
"Get a Life?" Haven't heard that one since about 1987. Very professional.
What do you expect? They cite wikipedia as reference material...

It is pretty obvious that Bloomberg intends to simply overwhelm the opposition by dramatically overspending again this time. I'm getting Bloomberg pamphlets and fliers in my mailbox three times a week already.
Bloomberg campaign took me off his mailing list when one of the caller called me to tell me that Bloomberg sacrificed himself to be Mayor. I told her that he is now the richest man in the whole city after being Mayor and what sort of sacrifice is that? she had no respond for me and I told her that she should be ashamed to campaign for Bloomberg. Now no more calls or mailings for me. LOL
Even before Weiner dropped out I supported Avella, but his fellow councilmembers snigger behind his back. After all, he has never missed a Council meeting, voted against gutting term limits and won't take the lulus that the rest of the CC does.

in the NYLHV citywide Candidates forum held last night , people stood up and cheered when Tony Avella spoked, even Bill Thompson conceded that he was no Tony Avella but would like our support on the humane issues. All the candidates except Bloomberg showed up and they all remarked how it was the biggest turnout in any forum that they attended.

Did I say I hate Bloomie?
He should die a poor man.
Oh, did I say I hate Bloomie?
'cause I meant just that.
p.s they blocked me from the e-mail after someone
didn't like what i had to say. ergo part of why I hate Bloomie.
Hey Kevin, I was reading your book for a talking book non-profit, (RFB&G) today and enjoyed the 20 pages or so that I recorded. You did a great job.
Ditto SC (#8)....and whenever one of his gazillion TV ads comes on I either change channels or mute it. I can't staaaand him!
A little Weiner just doesn't stand a chance against a huge putz.
