Bernard Kerik, BFF of Rudy Giuliani and former NYPD commissioner, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Washington D.C. The indictment relates to statements he made while being vetted to head the Department of Homeland Security in 2004—prosecutors say he was lying while Kerik's lawyer says he's being "overzealously" pursued. Kerik is accused of numerous misdoings—such as not claiming more than $500,000 in income on his tax returns, taking money from a contractor who had been angling for a city contract, taking a free Upper East Side apartment from a developer, claiming $80,000 in charitable deductions he never made—and will be tried in NY for those. Kerik's lawyer told WCBS 2, "Mr. Kerik looks forward to finally clearing his name of these corruption charges at his federal trial in New York set for October...However many trials it takes, Mr. Kerik will vigorously defend himself against these unfounded accusations and is confident that he will be completely vindicated." In 2007, Giuliani called hiring Kerik "a mistake."

Kerik is the former BFF of America's Mayor, leave Rudy out of this! If he's to be our next governor we have to forget and forgive.
Yea, BFF until you get indicted then it's "don't let the door hit you on your way out." Right now no one of any significant means political or otherwise would want to be connected with Kerik.
sounds to me like he'd fit right in with geithner, daschle, richardson and all the other tax evaders that the big o wants on his team. ever wonder why he gets indicted but geithner keeps his job? i do. and free homes...does the name tony rezco ring a bell?
I believe Geithner's screw-up was underreporting taxes, which is different than actively taking bribes, etc.
Kerik is accused of numerous misdoings—such as not claiming more than $500,000 in income on his tax returns
copied and pasted from your report. i'm not defending kerek, the guys a scumbag. i'm just wondering how one can justify the double standard. i would compare the geithner situation with catching somebody shoplifting and then letting them go because they agreed to give back the merchandise...
The unreported income is basically the value of the free rent from the apartment (from the developer interested in a city contract) and the value of the renovations he received (from a contractor interested in a city contract), which is why they are considered bribes. Kerik's situation is less easily explained that Geithner's (admitted BS-y) Turbo Tax mess-up excuse.
you say to-may-to i say to-ma-to...double standards
The difference, you nincompoop, is that Geitner admitted to his mistake and PAID HIS TAXES. In fact, he had already paid up most of what he owed, before his nomination was even announced. Kerik's unpaid taxes are just one among many offenses. The only double standard here is YOURS.
as i said "i would compare the geithner situation with catching somebody shoplifting and then letting them go because they agreed to give back the merchandise..."
did you just call me a nincompoop? what are you like a 2 year old or something?
so you're saying that if kerek admits his mistake and pays his taxes then all of this will go away?
Geithner only paid up after he was caught - a second time. The first was when he was audited and paid two years of back taxes. He conveniently kept his mouth shut about the two years before that for which he committed the same error. It was only after the transition team found out that he went and paid up again.
And I know you are going to try to spin this around so let me cut you off: I am in not way trying to defend Kerik.
And your juvenile name calling seriously impacts your credibility. You should think about acting like an adult.
Kerik was initially indicted under the Bush administration, in 2007. In both cases, the indictment was by grand jury (as always). So the idea that he is being selectively prosecuted by a Democratic administration is simply a joke.
Your characterization of the Geithner situation is more or less accurate, but that is how most tax situations are resolved in this country. Prosecution is extremely rare for tax issues. Most are settled with a back payment, like Geithner.
I'm not saying Geithner is clean. Objecting to his position on the tax issue is completely legitimate. But you're trying to equate Kerik and Geithner to make a cheap point, even though their actions were not at all similar.
minor edit: Unless there is associated criminal activity, prosecution is extremely rare for tax issues.
i'm not saying kerek is clean nor am i saying that he is being prosecuted because its a democratic administration. the guys a crook, obviously, and should be prosecuted for his crimes.
but what i am saying is that this administration has turned its head when the tax laws have been exploited by those individuals that are on the inside. and that is a double standard at its finest.
and must i bring up tony rezco again. the whole gift of an apartment as a political favor has a certain stinking similarity to it.
You don't even know how to spell Rezko, let alone the details of the non-issue. You don't appear at all interested in honest discussion. Good day.
stick to the topic, my apologies for not spell checking on the freaking gothamist mesage board. oldest trick in the book...when you have nothing to say...divert attention
No corruption? LOL, this man was Rudy's driver and then became NYC HEAD Police Boss and then considered for HomeLand Security director. LOL, he smells dirty miles away.
The apartment that was donated for the use of first responders to rest was instead use by Kerick to get Laid.
