Radio host Rush Limbaugh had plenty to say about Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court: "Here you have a racist — you might want to soften that, and you might want to say a reverse racist... [Liberals] of course, say that minorities cannot be racists because they don't have the power to implement their racism. Well, those days are gone, because reverse racists certainly do have the power. ... Obama is the greatest living example of a reverse racist, and now he's appointed one.” Limbaugh was referring to to Sotomayor's past statement during a speech (read it here), "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,"—and then noted how "wise men like Oliver Wendell Holmes and Justice Cardozo voted on cases which upheld both sex and race discrimination in our society." Politico reports that Limbaugh also complained about moderate Republicans (of course!), "I'm the one doing the heavy lifting. Colin Powell panders to moderate Republicans. If the moderates in the Republican Party offer no way to address this danger, then they are useless.”

Ironic for her to say such a thing considering it appears she has gone to great lengths to make sure she speaks nothing like a "NewYorican." I would prefer she stick to the case law and the Constitution when making decisions, not daydream about her childhood dinners of "platos de arroz, gandoles y pernir," (her quote, not mine).
She of course was speaking about her personal background. Unlike you, who ties it to her judicial experience. The quote is here: http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2009/05/26_sotomayor.shtml
But she's saying her personal background is going to help her make better legal decisions than white guys, so the arroz y gandules comment is appropriate.
You clearly know not of the raw, staggering legal power held within each grain of rice, EVERY SINGLE BEAN. It'll litigate the flying poop out of you.
Let's not even go into platanos fritos.
The term reverse-racist is itself a racist term, because it implies that only whites can be racist. BAM!
But seriously, when she said, and I quote, "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life", I had to a ask myself... So a female Latina is better qualified to give an opinion than one of those smelly old white males?
No she's saying that emphasizing life experience is worth disrupting the socioeconomic status quo. It's not really a difficult concept but someone people will hop on any excuse to shout "OMG racewar".
Still, I support Rush's quest to completely fragment the GOP into the several tiny loony fringe groups that have made up its national base.
don't you realize how insane it is that "emphasizing life experience is worth disrupting the socioeconomic status quo" of the supreme court? this is the supreme titty-fucking court...not just the local PTA board we are talking about here. if there were only 9 white males serving on the court, you could say that that is emblematic of socioeconomic problems in the country and so forth, but it would still be a completely different discussion than talking about who should serve on the supreme court. if you think people should serve on the supreme court based on things such as what ethnicity they are, what religion they are, what "life experiences" they've had, then you have missed the entire point of the supreme court itself and the separation of power in our government. but if the vast majority of people support your way of thinking i can only say that we deserve the train wreck that will follow
"No she's saying that emphasizing life experience is worth disrupting the socioeconomic status quo."
Yeah, by tripling the deficit and taking over the auto industry, and moving to take over health care, and even "bail out" / TAKE OVER failed media.
You better be prepared to fight for your commie hell–on–earth.
Does anyone with a brain care what Rush thinks anyway? I really like that recent sound bite from GOP strategist John Weaver, "If it's 2012 and our party is defined by Palin and Limbaugh and Cheney, then we're headed for a blowout."
The problem is they're the only ones talking. The actual GOP doesn't have any ideas, it seems. And yes, it probably will take a 70-30 stomping in 2012 for the GOP to get the message.
Rush Limbaugh IS indeed a big fat jerk.
Umm...please stop giving this moron attention, maybe he'll go away. If it hasn't already happened, republicians will soon childishly "Election" themselves into complete obscurity.
gonna drink a sixer of presidente, then ima pee on him
I look forward to taking a big dump on his grave...
The best thing for the Democrats is to have Rush keep up this rhetoric and he'll insure that the Dems stay in power for at least another 20 years.
I'm a New Yorker, born and bred, a liberal for life.
I like Obama... Charming, funny, intelligent, witty. I'm not gonna lie, I voted for the man. However, I do not agree with his economic policies, I don't agree with his tactic for Gitmo (declaring a deadline and THEN you try to figure out what to do with suspected terrorists you can't even convict in this country??), I don't agree with the bill that was presented saying that the president has the power to shut down points of the internet that he deems "dangerous" (what is "dangerous" and doesn't that infringe on our constitutional rights?), and I know absolutely nothing about the new judge he has appointed, so I cannot comment on it.
I think we are expecting too much from our government. Have you been to the DMV? That's pretty much how our government works and we want them to take over everything? Bail the banks out? Bail the car manufacturers out? Give us "free" health care? Etc.
As for Rush, he is just doing what he does best... He's talking smack. He's been talking smack for years. Of course his comments are unwarranted and the man takes it a bit too far, it's entertainment! But, statistically and factually speaking, his fact checkers are actually doing their jobs unlike most news outlets.
Still a liberal, here... still a big city lovin' liberal. Gay marriage, pro-choice, freedom of religion, freedom of speech - I love these things, they things are undeniably natural rights in my mind. But we all live in a bubble, and our universe is very tiny inside of our bubble.
But just a suggestion - You need to branch out. You need to be open. Find some alternative news outlet, not CNN, not FOX, not NPR, not Rush Limbaugh. You need a little anarchy in your life and don't try to tell me otherwise.
Do you know what the folks in the middle of this nation are doing right now??
BUYING GUNS!
You know why?? So they can protect themselves from our government. I've been to gun shops, gun shows, and everyone says the same thing to me... "Don't know about this economy, but Mr. Obama has certainly stimulated the market for guns."
I don't think those people in the middle of our country are crazy for thinking that this government may try to strip their rights to their property or their money or to bear arms. There is something bigger happening out there.
Here, here!
Agree 100%
Don't forget to stock up on precious metals either, friends. All money in the bank is one big I.O.U.
All those words, but you completely missed the link between Rush and the gun buying spree. While they may claim to be just entertainment, it is people like Rush and Beck making wild claims that is increasing paranoia and leading to the increased gun sales.
Both parties talk smack to hit their base's buttons.
Warrantless wiretapping is bad, but we'll go ahead and protect FISA.
Torture is bad, but we won't take those responsible to account.
Gitmo is bad, but we'll make a new one (but NIMBY!), and continue to suspend habeus.
Pollution is bad, but we'll write bills with loopholes big enough for SUVs to drive through.
I.bankers were bad, but we won't break them back up.
Gays should be able to serve in the military, but....
Defense spending is too high, but we'll approve an increased budget for cold war style defense.
Campaign finance reform? wha?
National health care? Given the hold of the Insurance and Pharma lobbies on Congress, not in this lifetime.
Consumer protection against usury? Well, give them that, but throw some guns in.
Seven years from now, you'll see a record only slightly to the left of W, although it will more the fault of Congress than BO.
Liberal progressives are good and better then they. They are full of hatred for anyone that disagrees with them. They are, mean, nasty mothers that are ready to elimanate anyone in their way !!!! Thats good !!!! Mobilizing to move !!! They have emotions and raw feelings.
Rush Limbo and Sean Odonkey need to be silenced so the revolutin can be done !!! once those two are out of the way then nothing can be stopped. They tried to shut off my cabel tv.
I am eating my "gandoles" and "pernir" now..... its good.... They ALSO are buying guns on 135 St. so wtf does that mean ??? We got plenty of weapons... more than they do !!!
They NEVER killed or shot any one so what should we be scared ??? They are afraid to kill when it happens.
"They are afraid to kill when it happens."
Don't be so sure of that. Many hinterland people have been brought up to be hunters. If you can shoot a bird or a rabbit or a deer, it isn't much harder to shoot a man. The only thing we've got going for us is the Government because they've got more fire power.
he's irrelevant.
don't bother reading his words. don't bother addressing the inherent HYPOCRISY.
he's 20th century deep down to the roots.
he is the LAST GASP. ROSE BUD!
He's also an ugly, big, fat, pill-popping pig.
ima reverse pee on him
Another double.
And this is news because?
"Blah blah blah I always have to say 'controversial' stuff to get attention blah blah burp fart..."
I know what he's trying to say but the term "reverse racist"..lol. Wouldn't reverse racist = not a racist?
Rush Limbaugh has lost all usefulness to this world. A blubbering mass of hatred that sprews lies without remorse. Aren't we all tired of this type of insanity?
Both she and Rush are jerks.
Her race has ZERO bearing on anything, and I don't want to hear it out of anyone's mouth.
Racism test:
If one of the old white guys on the bench had stated that his experiences as an older white guy make him more qualified to judge than Sotomayor, would it be racist?
