Here's the first peek at the new look of Times Square without a vehicle in sight as part of the "Greenlight for Midtown" program, which began today. The early shot looking down Broadway and Seventh Avenue from 45th Street comes from Streetsblog, which says, "It's obviously way too soon to judge how this remarkable experiment is working but today, at least, car-free Broadway appears to be a huge hit. "
We'll be sure to have a gallery as images continue to come in from the inaugural day of pedestrians enjoying their newfound freedom on the normally congested sidewalks and streets in the heart of the city.

If by pedestrians you mean tourists.
I went up to check it out and, funny, I did feel a bit like a tourist. Took some pictures, looked up, the whole ball of wax.
Pretty amazing.
Oh, and the traffic was going smoothly both down 7th at Times Square and up 6th at Herald. Apparently the re-timed lights are working brilliantly.
Congrats DOT
Now tourists can walk 10 wide!
The Final Step in the Disneyfication of Times Square!
Yea, lets bring back the crack!
Where are Ronald Reagan and Ollie North when you need them?
Note that despite giving them an entire avenue to occupy, tourists are still wandering onto 7th avenue (see photo). Idiots.
Which is why I would build cattle ramps to direct them onto the tractor trailers so they can be shipped to the factory.
Hooray. Best. News. Ever.
