Cops Bust L.I. Couple For Home Basement "Nightclub"

2009_05_cafedisco.jpg It's one thing to have a party at home with drinks and dancing. But it's another thing to charge guests for entrance at your home basement nightclub. Newsday reports that Long Beach police, who were investigating a noise complaint, found 30 people inside—and 20 people outside—of Julissa and Joseph Naraine's home. Paying a fee would allow folks to enjoy music, dancing, a DJ and a buffet at the Naraines'. The couple, who "claimed the parties help pay for his daughter to perform in beauty pageants," now face charges related to violating zoning, building and alcohol laws. We hope Cafe Disco in Scranton, Pennsylvania isn't shut down!

Isn't this the same concept as those "rent parties" we heard about a few weeks ago? You know, charging your friends a cover at the door to come hang. That and keg parties that happen in every college town?

I was thinking the same thing.

So much drama in the LBC.

The "land of the free" is long gone...

Sure, it's not a serious offense, but how would you guys like to live next door to that? I wouldn't. The bust was a response to a noise complaint in a residential neighborhood. I say the nighbor(s) were entirely within their rights.

Police in the city
is shuttin all the clubs down

Losers. Surprised this isn't Central Islip or Shaolin.

While I can sympathize with the noise complaint (some idiot in a motorcycle loves burning it around here at 3am in the morning on sunday nights), it also seems that authorities in NYC are making it so difficult to actually go out and enjoy yourself that most people simply don't bother.
