Man Stabbed in Neck in Greenwich Village

052109stabby.jpg An unidentified man was stabbed in the neck at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and West 4th Street just after 4:40 a.m this morning, ABC 7 reports. The stabee is now at St. Vincent's in stable condition. Two suspects were witnessed fleeing the scene; one wearing a black shirt and another in a... grey shirt. So give those two a wide berth if you spot them! Last Thursday a Buffalo man was hospitalized after an alleged late-night gay-bashing assault in the Village, and on Sunday another man was stabbed in the back and arm during a heated pre-dawn argument. Some local residents are complaining that their quaint neighborhood is becoming sketchy, and NYPD stats support those anecdotal reports, at least in the category of violent assaults, which are up about 40% over last year thus far. Robbery, burglary, and grand larcenies are all down, though, so try not to panic—but do check back often for updates on this alarming crime wave!

I called the 6th Precinct to voice my concern and request more police presence (as a concerned resident of W. 4th St.)and the cop who took my call laughed at me and told me that I "don't need to call and tell them where to put their ppl"...glad to see they are taking the increase in violence seriously...

6th Precinct is a nasty piece of work. A few years ago, I went over there to drop off a coat for New York Cares. When I walked in, a cop said very nastily "How did you get in here?"

  • Snoopy

You should have replied after pulling out an AK47, "How the fuck are you going to get out of here?"

  • Snoopy

And then they wonder why the average citizen doesn't respect them. Instead of CPR on the side of their cars they should say ASSHOLE.

  • Snoopy

I believe your story. All these pieces of shit want is overtime so they can beef up their retirement payments. Shut down any establishment that serves doughnuts from 12:05 to 7:00 AM and we will see more cops on the streets.

  • Snoopy

If they beefed up the collars for quality of life crimes in the Village I bet you would see a drop in the crime rate. Most of these punks, whether they wear black, gray or pink T shirts, will back off and keep their violence in their own turf.

"Some local residents are complaining that their quaint neighborhood is becoming sketchy"

By "quaint" do they mean the tattoo parlors along 6th Avenue near West 4th Street?

  • Wza

    The Village, they go hard..

  • matty

    hah

  • JacqueMehoff

this is just the warm weather crime uptick. it will level off.

don't the village have a neighborhood watch group? or is that just a sign to fake you out.

  • Guest

The WV guardian angels / neighborhood watch had a table at the BBC fair last weekend. There was one tough girl, a senior citizen and someone else. they didn't look able to combat much. Why arent' they patrolling?

Burn Newark to the ground and start over again.

    ohnoes, i'm racist~

  • openheads

Why is Newark getting the blame for this?

Oh, that's right, it makes NY feel better.

  • JMH

Right, because, you know, there's no crime at all anywhere else in NYC. Just where all those despicable Jersey people hang out.

  • The Edge

Any description of these despicable people who usually commit crimes like this that live in places other than Newark and frequent the W. 4th station?

Like ethnicity, hair style, type of clothing...

  • Nyctini11

Nah, you're just verbalizing what many(including me) are already thinking.

  • greekscholar

bring back the "smoke smoke" guys!

All these recent violent crimes take place in a line between the PATH and A train stations.

    Connect the dots.

"All these recent violent crimes take place in a line between the PATH and A train stations."

As a resident of the West Village, I fully agree with that statement. Unfortunately all the police that should be patrolling around the Christopher Street Path station are standing around in Times Square having their picture taken with the tourists. The closest I ever see police to the West Village is a group of fix or six of them standing around Duane Reade on 6th Avenue. Obviously they are over there in case things get a bit rough at Pizzeria Uno.

Everyone knows cops are afraid of those "on the dl, but not in manhattan" thugs that hang on christopher.
