Union Square: Wal-Mart Out, Nordstrom In?

0509nordstrom.jpg Those fearing a Wal-Mart might be moving to Union Square can breath a sigh of relief...for now. While the shuttered Times Square Virgin Megastore transitions into a Forever 21, WWD is reporting that the Nordstrom folks might be taking over the Virgin Megastore space. The real deal high price Nordstrom department store you've seen in the mall isn't looking to move in, however, it's their discount shop called The Rack that would be unpacking there. A spokeswoman for Nordstrom told WWD, “We looked at Union Square and would like to have a Rack in Manhattan. Nothing is signed yet. We are talking to them.” But word is the lease is "very, very close" to being signed.

"The Rack", wasn't that on West 14th Street in the late '70's?

I'd really prefer a Target...

I'd really prefer a Target...

OMG. I am going to line up -- now!!!!

they'll be there for a year and then close down. I don't think anyone can afford the rents at union square unless it's walmart or target.

Yeah, no one can afford the rents in NYC except Wal-Mart. That's why there are so many Wal-Marts in the city.

Nordstrom Rack is the best store. They'll be so successful in Manhanttan, especially in Union Square.

Or Targets.
They are, however, in the outer Burroughs.

The Target in Atlantic Mall is soooo frustrating. They never have anything in stock.

Yay, for The Rack.

Oh yeah, that Target is the worst I've ever been in... between the pushy Hasids with their 1,000 children, the unhelpful employees (one gave me a blank look recently when I asked her where the lighting dept. was), and the empty shelves, it's pointless to go there.

The one in the Bronx (Marble Hill) is so much better.

Ya Target Atlantic Terminal is crap.

RIP Bradlees.

Nordstrom should just put a normal Nordstrom's there...

The rack will do fine (maybe put both stores there... there is always Circuit City's Space too!
