4 Arrested In Plot To Bomb Temples, Shoot Military Planes

2009_04_handcuffs.jpg The FBI and NYPD have arrested four men who were allegedly plotting to bomb at least two Jewish temples and attack a National Guard base. According to NBC New York, "several of the suspects are Muslims who allegedly talked about destroying two Jewish temples, including at least one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx." The men apparently ordered and received bomb making materials, but "investigators said they made sure the materials the suspects received were inert." And WCBS 2 reports, the men also wanted to "shoot military planes located at the New York Air National Guard Base at Stewart Airport in Newburgh with Stinger surface-to-air guided missiles." The four men, all residents of Newburgh, were arrested in the Bronx this evening; apparently a friend tipped off the feds, who have been investigating them for a year.

This is my issue w/Obama wanting to release the Gitmo prisoners and put the serious offenders among others, into US jails, where you'll have plenty of people like these men as the news stated... "Several of the suspects have previously been arrested on drug charges and may have converted to Islam in prison, authorities said."

it's like we're inviting terrorists to come and get these mens heads(they have nothing to lose)and they're gonna turn a bunch of gullible americans into suicide bombers, etc. Send em back to where they came from & let them be a burden over there. That & we shouldn't be paying for this kind of shit, if anything, execute them, they're only gonna be angrier now & they've proven they can't live in normal society.

You know, Islam is all right (except for that whole death penalty for homosexuality thing).

  • felixthecat2

what about the stoning to death for adultery?

  • Gay Röhm

Completely justified. If there's one thing I agree with Mohammed on, it's that women are ho's (and gross!!)

  • felixthecat2

lol inside but for my girlfriend's sake I have to say I disagree. LOL

I will never underestimate the ability of the FBI to cock things up, break the law or stumble around like blind mice. But, if what I have read is true, these guys thought they had " parked car bombs wired to cell phones outside the Riverdale Temple and nearby Riverdale Jewish Center." How they got to that point is important. But that they did it is important too.

    I'll wait for the trial.

9/11 happens and the FBI is criticized for being too reactionary and not being pro-active in discovering terror attacks before they happen.

FBI become pro-active and intercepts terror acts before they happen and they get criticized for being too pro-active and overreacting.

  • FrankMartin

Well, first that is the price you pay for being the top law enforcement agency in the land. Nobody cares when planes land safely.

I have no idea if they deserve critisim in this case, I said "I'll wait fore the trial". But talking some nut jobs into planting fake bombs isn't the same as "discovering terror attacks before they happen." I still think the men are dangerous, if the early reports are true. If the FBI can talk them into it I guess a true Jihadist could too. But could the true jihadist get a real bomb or a real stinger? I doubt it.

Per FBI own release, they defendants wanted to engage in terrorist attacks. They selected targets and sought the weapons necessary to carry out their plans but the informants provided them with the means( all the weapons).

I don't see why we can't question the govt, it isn't as if the govt never lied to us. Democracy is questioning authorities and it doesn't mean it is criticizing the arrests.

Wasn't meant to be a reply to FrankMartin.

    >Currently, the case is in the SDNY so I guess they won't be treated as enemy combatants as under Bush Administration.

You mean 5 years of indefinite detention without trial or charges isn't part of the American Constitutional tradition? Damn you Bush/Cheney! Damn you!!!!

  • arrogantnative

It's a good thing Obama has no plans to detain people indefintely!

    Oh Wait...

Right wing Extremism (homegrown terrorism) - these 4 men don't fit the profile-not white and not right wing but with the current wars and state of economy, I think "homegrown terrorists" will be a real danger. that is why America needs to change its policy because we are in the end only creating more terrorism. End the wars and get out of the middle east especially Iraq and NO IRAN. So Much money and lives wasted in this non-winning and non-purpose war.

  • felixthecat2

Currently, the case is in the SDNY so I guess they won't be treated as enemy combatants as under Bush Administration.

  • indy

you're right felix, the would-be bombers are the victims here

  • felixthecat2

Who said they were the victims? Are you on medication?

  • felixthecat2

2 of them are American Born who converted to Muslim, one Haitian and the leader had American Parents. They seem to be African-American and not Arabs. It seems not to be any ring but a bunch of guys who were acting up against Israel and America involvement in the killing of Muslims overseas.

On the A train over the weekend a guy was talking about how mad he was at the government over 9/11 and losing his brother. He went on to say that no Jews were killed in the towers' collapse so it was obviously done by Bush and Osama. This was a conversation he struck up with a stranger.

  • felixthecat2

Actually this is a conversation that you can hear in Harlem since I once volunteered at a center and this was a common theme share by the community. Someone told me that there was a large Mosque in Harlem with prominent attendees (professors, community leaders etc) but I never had a chance to visit. But they told me that the police was not allowed to enter the mosque with permission. I don't know if that is true.
