Shocker: Party Promoter Busted for Selling Ecstasy

051909e.jpg In dog-bites-man news, police say a Baruch College finance major who moonlighted as a party promoter made a little extra money by selling Ecstasy! Michail Shimonov, 23, (pictured here with E written all over his face) and his alleged partner in crime Albert Kim are accused of working with an eight-man drug crew that sold E, Ketamine (Special K) and GHB to clubgoers. Investigators say undercover cops bought the drugs during an eight-month narcotics investigation at Pacha and Rebel, and wire taps caught crew members talking on the phone about dealing drugs at Roseland Ballroom and Mansion, now known as M2 Ultra Lounge. Shimonov had 88 Ecstasy pills, each marked with a green gun, when police arrested him; he was allegedly selling them to Kim for $8 a pill, and Kim would then unload them in clubs for $25 each. Shimonov, who worked for the party promotion company Entourage, liked to tell people he was "getting my promotion career in motion." And his poor mother tells the Daily News, "I can only say good things about my son. They can say whatever they want, he's no drug ring leader. Of course not."

Well I guess with people openly talking of how the much-vaunted "war on drugs" is a complete failure, law enforcement officials must be absolutely desperate to trumpet any "success" they manage.

Of course in this case it's probably just ruined 8 people's lives and resulted in a whole bunch of pissed off partygoers.

I cannot wait for the day when we all wake up and kick this asinine set of policies into the place they belong in the history books - right next to "Prohibition" and "Failed Social Policies".

So it is an 8 person "drug ring" with sales of $10K a weekend? That amounts to average $1250 per member probably prior to expenses, advertisement, and security services. These are extremely little fish and the story is blown out of proportions. Unless I misread the article. I bet he is not going to do any time.

The sales volume does not even justify this "bust" making it into the news.

The guy sold some recreational drugs. What's the big deal? He wasn't forcing anyone to take them. Let's go after the liquor store owners as well.

Buy for $8, sell for $25. That sounds about right. But the mom has a point... He's no drug ring LEADER. He's just a bit player, selling products to consenting adults.

Thank you NYPD! You have yet again saved me from myself. Will you also please arrest all pornographers on the planet to, again, save me from myself (just in a different way)?

Maybe he can use that money to pay for college? I hear that FAFSA cuts off your aid if you get a drug conviction...which is stupid IMO.
