A new Quinnipiac poll reveals that New York State is split 46% to 46% when it comes to allowing same-sex marriage. Quinnipiac also says, "Black voters opposed 57 - 35 percent while white voters tip narrowly in favor of gay marriage 47 - 45 percent." But there's more support for civil unions: Overall, voters support civil unions 65-27 "with 67 - 24 percent support from white voters and 52 - 39 percent support from black voters."
Interestingly, voters rejected the idea that "same-sex marriage is a threat to traditional marriage between a man and a woman" 63% to 32%. There are more interesting demographic details here, like how women support the measure while men are opposed. Though the State Assembly passed the gay marriage bill, it's questionable whether the State Senate has the votes to pass it. Five Thirty-Eight's Nate Silver puts odds of the bill passing as one in three.
And yesterday, the Empire State Pride Agenda released an ad (see it above) to help drum up support for the bill. It has a straight couple, Barb and Don, speaking about their straight daughter was able to marry the person she wanted and how their gay daughter can't. ESPA's Alan Van Capelle told PolitckerNY they used Barb and Don because legislators had said they were swayed after visits from "parents of adult gay and lesbian children in loving and committed relations who wanted to marry."

I have nothing against gays but legalizing gay marriage could teach our children to learn to be gay. That would be terrible.

People can learn being gay. For example I had two guy friends who went on a gay cruise. When they came back they told me for the first time that they were gay. I figured that they must have learned this or have been corrupted on the gay cruise. Also after Brokeback Mountain came out there were alot more gay people around because they must have thought it was the cool trend.

There is nothing wrong with being gay its just that gays stole two of my good friends. One minute they tell me they won this free cruise, and who wouldn't go if it was free, and when they came back they were gay. Now there are no more annual camping trips becuase I feel that there is a chance they could see me naked.

You know what I find peculiar? The not-so-subtle racism coming from the gay community and gay marriage advocates against the black community ever since Prop 8.
My post was absolutely void of racism. It is completely focused on statistical evidence - black New Yorkers are less likely to support gay marriage, and black people are less likely to be married. You might not like it, but those are the facts. Don't throw about accusations of racism just because someone says something related to race that you wish wasn't true. Read the article I linked and then accuse the African-American woman who wrote it of racism, if you'd like.
Furthermore, can you blame the gay community for being PO'ed? Not just at black people, but at the religious, at the conservative, at straight people in general. They're being denied their rights by groups that take their right to marry for granted. And I say this as a straight person. We should be ashamed for letting this happen.

That being said, babyhitler is completely correct. Even the argument that marriage is "traditionally" between a man and a woman is incorrect. I majored in anthropology in college and I recall the following "traditional marriages" in various cultures:

The divorce rate is a coin toss and out of wedlock births are approaching that rate. Those rates are often higher in un-ejumacated bible belt states.
IIRC, the wedding 'industry' lobby was one of the biggest proponents of of gay marriage in California. There's quite a bit of money in $5K cakes and lengthy registries and such. I'm sure the divorce lawyers were not far behind.
