Last Night's Action: Mets Never Say Die

  • Mets 4, Braves 3: Down 3-0 entering the eighth and 3-2 entering the ninth, the Mets didn't give up. Jose Reyes doubled home two in the eighth -- he got thrown out trying to make it a triple -- and then scored the winning run in the tenth. The Mets benefited from a missed call in the ninth that let Carlos Beltran steal third -- he was out -- and then score on a Luis Castillo sacrifice fly. Beltran walked in the winning run in the 10th, capping a rally that started with two out and no one on.
  • Blue Jays 5, Yankees 1: At least he made it quick and painless. Roy Halladay rolled to a five-hitter -- the only run came on an Alex Rodriguez RBI single in the seventh -- as the Yankees dropped the opener of a three-game set in Toronto. Derek Jeter sat out the game with an injured oblique. A.J. Burnett did not impress against his former mates, walking four and striking out three in 7 2/3 innings. Andy Pettitte starts Wednesday night's game.

    Why are all my comments appearing twice?

    I knew they'd pull it off if I stopped watching and went to bed. I'm glad they won, but 2 points get overlooked in the glee over the vistory:

    A) Reyes, greedy again, should have stayed with the double. The team needed baserunners, not heroes;

    B) Tatis got picked off? Again, if you're not known for blazing speed and the team needs baserunners, you have to be a big boy and let your teammates advance you.

  • They bounced back after my jinx friend left in the 8th.

    Ban that friend from the games, ok?
