Montauk Monster's Return Related To Swine Flu?

0509montaukmonster.jpg The Hipster Grifter departs and the Montauk Monster returns! It's the ebb and flow, people. Remember that rotting carcass that creeped out and simultaneously intrigued the summering set last year? Consider this the sequel. But what does another unidentifiable animal washing up on the beach mean: are the locals messing with us? Has Plum Island hired a sloppy cleaning crew? Do aliens exist? There's no time for such questions—because the official Montauk Monster website has put the fear in us: "this carcass may be carrying H1N1 influenza (The Swine Flu)...I haven’t ruled out biological warfare on this yet. A diseased carcass floating in waterways around Long Island could be infecting the water, fish, etc. We still need to remember that Plum Island is where Lyme Disease originated, it’s really not too far fetched to believe that this carcass (if from Plum Island) could be carrying bacteria or disease." Not to get all Mulder and Scully, but maybe this would be worth looking into.

the men in black suits arent going to be happy that you took their stuff...

Where is P. T. Barnum? I haven't heard from him in years. I bet he's behind all these monsters.

"We still need to remember that Plum Island is where Lyme Disease originated"

I'm not sure if this was meant to be in jest or what, but it is not at all true.

It's poor journalism to state matter-of-factly that Plum Island is the source of Lyme Disease, then link to a website that looks straight out of 1996 with an article written by some woman with a "Ph.D." after her name and a Hotmail address. Seriously, you couldn't find a better source? This same crackpot has a post over at sitfu.com from Saturday encouraging people to forego any as-yet-to-be-developed swine flu vaccine and warning that we may lose access to clean water and electricity as the outbreak becomes a pandemic.

they are quoting the crackpot conspiracy theory website. That is why there are quote marks around those statements.

Swine flu bio war? That's comical.

Bio-war would be something more along the lines of an incurable version of Variola, that would wipe out every (or most) humans on earth in a matter of months.

That is a dog without a head.

Long Island is a diseased carcass floating in our waterways.

Too many expert opinions and not nearly enough hype.

Posting a picture of a decayed dead cat and trying to stir controversy about the existence of some "monster" is the reason I rarely even read this crappy Gothamist anymore.

Keep it up, Gothamist!

And really, anyone who reads this post and thinks it's an attempt to stir up controversy is taking it all too seriously.

Oh, it's not Gothamist trying to stir controversy... it's an existing story they are writing about. Keep it chill, holmes.

The last Montauk Monster I ever saw drove a BMW and never took off her sunglasses, even at night.

THIS IS DISGUSTING THAT YOU WOULD POST THIS PICTURE OF A DEAD DOG OR CAT. IT'S TERRIBLE.
