You just purchased a condo in Williamsburg with a sick rooftop terrace overlooking the East River, but don't send out that 4th of July firework-watching party Evite to your friends just yet: They're being moved to the Hudson River this year. Macy's sure loves change.
The move is likely just for one year, however, and it's "to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s voyage to what would become New York." Six barges will be set up between 24th and 50th streets as the New York Pops provide the live soundtrack beyond the sonic backdrop of the big bangs. NewYorkology notes that "Macy’s Fireworks debuted in 1958 on the Hudson and actually held a special event in 1959 to mark the 350th Anniversary of the Henry Hudson voyage."

i blame the strong new jersey lobby. open your eyes people!
Guess I'll be partying in Hoboken this year and not the Greenpoint or Wburg waterfront!
The 4th is on a Saturday this year, so wherever the party is it'll be even more insanely clogged than usual.
Seems to me that the GW Bridge could provide quite a decent view.
Yeah GWB would have a great view if you don't mind looking 7 miles down river with binoculars.
Wow, don't know how I made that mistake. I must not be getting enough sleep at work.
After ten minutes, the Macy's fireworks, though spectacular, actually starts to get tedious. We were on a roof in Greenpoint and my then-3-year-old nephew got bored and started wandering around. It didn't have to necessarily tear myself away from the show to keep an eye on him, because I was started to get bored too.
I always thought the waters off Coney Island would've been a great spot for a second huge fireworks show. Maybe Macy's can cut their Hudson/East River shows in half and send the surplus fireworks down Coney Island way.
Just as us folks in Brooklyn and Queens were feeling like we are a part of NYC, Macy's limits it's fireworks to the West Side and New Jersey again. God forbid we should feel like we are all in the same city.
