The two cops accused of raping an intoxicated woman placed a fake 911 call in order to give themselves an excuse to return to her apartment and sexually assaulted her after having tended to her on two previous visits. According to the New York Post, prosecutors say that Kenneth Moreno and Franklin Mata (pictured) used a pay phone at First Avenue and East 13th Street to place a 911 call under the name "John Edward." In the call, they complained about a drunk homeless man whom they said was in front of a building two doors down from the victim's residence.
The pair knew that they would be the ones dispatched on the phony complaint and, after going through the motions of checking on it, then headed to the woman's building. There they entered with a key they had taken and covered their faces while passing the building's surveillance camera—only to be caught by a second camera unbeknownst to them.
It was during this visit that Moreno is accused of raping the victim while Mata served as a lookout. They were in the apartment for 34 minutes and are accused of later faking logbook entries of their whereabouts. The two cops, who pleaded not guilty, are awaiting trial after their indictment on Tuesday.

I hope that you understand that "have sex with" and "rape" are not synonymous. You have used the "have sex with" verb here twice, when what the cops are accused of is raping the woman.
I'm not sure why you're shying away from using the correct term, but even if you wanted to use a euphemism for rape (and why would you feel the need to?) "to have sex with" is most certainly not interchangeable for rape.
I agree with Iphie, very poor wording choice by Gothamist (Billy Parker).
Playing devil's advocate, the cops are innocent until proven guilty, despite the mounting evidence.
pointsguy, you're right. They are innocent until proven guilty. That's why it should read "allegedly raped"
Thank you for pointing that out!
To "have sex" with someone is a consensual act.
To use one's badge to barge into somebody's house three times in one night to force yourselves on them is "rape"
Which is what these cops did - which makes them "rapists"
Revolting. This story gets worse and worse. I'd be shocked if this was the first time these animals did this.
These guys were caught on camera? Busted. I wonder how they're going to manipulate that piece of evidence.
A cabbie called the cops to HELP this woman earlier in the evening , and they raped her then too :
MANHATTAN (CN) - A New York City police officer is charged with raping a drunken woman in her East Village apartment after escorting her home, while his partner kept lookout. State prosecutors say Kenneth Moreno, 41, had sex with the 27-year-old while she lay face down in her bed after vomiting.
Moreno and Franklin Mata, 27, responded to a 911 call from a cab driver who said a passenger had thrown up in the back seat and didn't have money for the fare, the New York County District Attorney's Office said. Video surveillance showed the cops helping the visibly drunken women into her building around 1 a.m. and leaving soon after, then returning twice that night, prosecutors said. Authorities say Mata lied to dispatchers about their whereabouts and later claimed he misplaced his logbook.
Investigators say the woman was unable to consent to sex because her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
Both men pleaded not guilty to rape, burglary and official misconduct charges. They face up to 25 years in prison if convicted. Both were placed on suspension after the December incident.

?
Yes, that's how they met her. We knew this a month ago when the story first emerged.
hey, where's pat lynch?
those mongrels.....
have to admit the fuzz knows all the tricks in the book.
These people are animals...
I look forward to Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler's investigation.
In the old days they would have told the woman if she makes any trouble for them they would arrest her for prostitution.
you really aren't going to change the wording? Can't be too difficult.
ugh "tended to her"?
How about "raped"?
i'm cool with it now, it was changed based on the editors/writers discretion.
'Tended to' is still not appropriate. They raped her on two previous visits.
There's a few guys in prison who canb't wait to make their own little '911 call' to "tend to" those two sickfucks...
I'm sure filthy rapists don't get crap from other filthy rapists in prison. They probably all high-five.
I suspect the NYPD will hang them out to dry (which is fine with me).
Did you know that if a cabbie is placed under arrest they pull his hack license immediately and he can't ask it back 'till after the trial? I guess cabbies are held to higher standards than cops.
Soemthing a lot of people don't seem to realize: It's not a good idea to put someone who is helplessly drunk into a taxi alone. Look what happened to this poor young lacy. If your friend needs a drunkwagon he/she needs an escort too.
Cops have been doing this kind of crap since the dawn of time and will continue doing it forever. Hoping these two scumbags get the royal treatment in prison.
