Deeply In Debt Craigslist Killer Suspect Still Loved By Fiancee

2009_04_phimeg.jpg Yesterday, court papers revealed that medical student Philip Markoff is in $130,000 debt from student loans and therefore needs a court-appointed defense attorney. Markoff is suspected of killing NYC resident Julissa Brisman in a Boston hotel room; Brisman was meeting a massage client (via Craigslist). The Boston Globe observes that while Markoff was living off student loans, he was "living in a $1,400-a-month one-bedroom apartment in a luxury high-rise in Quincy." Markoff's fiancee Megan McAllister released a new statement, “In the past two short weeks, my life and what I hoped my life to be has dramatically changed. I also love my fiance and I will continue to support him throughout this legal process. My heart goes out to all of those afflicted by these events. It is my intent to fully cooperate with my fiance’s attorney as well as the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office ... I can only tell them what I know and what is the truth... What has been portrayed and leaked to the media is not the Philip Markoff that I know... My fiance’s fate should not rest in the court of public opinion, but rather in a court of law."

i don't doubt that this is difficult for her, and I hope she's got people around to support her while she comes to the realization that what she knows is not (necessarily) the truth.

I on the other hand don't give a RAT'S AZZ about this c*nt NOR her murderous BF.

i wouldn't say $130K is "deeply in debt" for a med student. That's about average i would think.

Thank you. If every grad student with $130k in student loan debt went on a killing binge, we'd make Rwanda look like a pie eating contest at a bible camp. This nonsense will actually hurt the prosecution because it confuses the issue of motive and allows the defense to portray this sick sociopath as a "thief who went too far". Idiots.

Move on lady-he's deeply in debt and in shit loads of trouble-not husband material

I think what is really disturbing and what should disturb McAllister is that only after a couple days of killing Brisman, he robs another woman. He doesn't take a break; ie the killing didn't cause sufficient mental anguish.

Why do women fall in love with these douchebag losers?

And apparently stand by them no matter what they do.

Why is the media obsessed with the fact that he contacted this person through Craigslist? Traditional media (once again) trying to paint the web as a scary, dangerous place?

That's a great point. If this was one of those lame ads in the back of NY Magazine, would anyone continuously repeat that it was after she placed an ad in NY Magazine?

there's nothing against the law with the police releasing some info about the case or for the press to say whatever they want, for god sakes it's the press they make shit up all the time. friends have been interviewed, victims, most are painting the same picture... he was average with issues. news flash, we're all average with issues, the key is to address your own issues civilly.

Cry me a river that he was/is in debt $130K. A lot of students, in or out of college, are in debt... Med students have a better advantage than most because they're typically the ones who will make a killing (no pun intended) later in life. This kid was/is just fucking stupid—and now I hope he rots in a jail cell for life. His idiot fiancée is the one making it worse by talking to the press...

She is only saying what her lawyer told her to say. It's not really coming from her.

"My fiance’s fate should not rest in the court of public opinion, but rather in a court of law."

That's right, sweetie. Now, prepare yourself for that court of law to convict him, his inevitable incarceration and your complete emotional and mental breakdown.

public defender? he's cooked. nothing has leaked, he's the one, their apparently is a mountain of evidence.

oops... there apparently is...

don't worry about her, she'll make a great mail-order american bride.

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode... "I have lost my fiance"

Woman: I wonder what happened to my fiancée. I know he's here somewhere.
Ellen? Have you seen my fiancée?

Ellen: He's upstairs.

Woman: Are you going upstairs? Tell my fiancée I'm looking for him. I have
lost my fiancée, the poor baby.

Elaine: Maybe the dingo ate your baby.

This dumb b---h is lucky she was not another Laci Peterson or OJ casualty ... next
