Last Night's Action: A Bad Day For New York Sports

  • Washington 5 Rangers 3: Are they doomed? Not quite, but they have to find Henrik Lundqvist’s mojo if they have any chance of winning Game 7. Lundqvist doesn’t look right and he has been pulled in consecutive games, this time after allowing all five Washington goals. Expect the Rangers to dress Colton Orr Tuesday, if only to provide someone besides Paul Mara to police Donald Brashear., but it won’t matter much unless the real Henrik shows up.
  • Washington 8 Mets 1: Bad Ollie showed up Sunday as Perez was rocked for seven runs in four-plus innings of work. Perez gave up two home runs and now has a 9.31 ERA. Casey Fossum skirted disaster in his relief outing and he was released after the game. New York managed only six hits in the game as four Washington pitchers kept their lineup in check.
  • Washington 3 Red Bulls 2: Perhaps it was Washington’s destiny to beat up all the New York teams today? How else do you explain this game? The Red Bulls had the lead until the end of regulation and then inexplicably gave up two goals in final few minutes to lose the game.

  • Carolina 4 New Jersey 0: Eric Staal had two goals and the Devils uncharacteristically allowed 37 shots. Game 7 will be Tuesday at 7:30.
  • Red Sox 4 Yankees 1: Jacoby Ellsbury beat Jose Reyes to it and stole home off of Andy Pettitte in the 5th. It was actually the fourth time in his career that someone has stolen home off of Pettitte and it epitomized the Yankees’ weekend. They were swept out of Boston, blowing leads in all three games and they now find themselves at .500 and at a crossroads in this young season.

The Mets never cease to amaze. Dump all the dregs from the bullpen BUT resign Oliver Perez for more money than K-Rod.

F*ck the Caps. People give Avery all kinds of shit for his antics. The real nuisance to hockey is guys like Donald Brashear. Upset that someone had the audacity to check him, he skates away from the play to deliver an elbow to the head of Blair Betts, knocking out the Rangers' best penalty killer. And the dumbass refs don't give him a match penalty. The NHL really has its priorities messed up.

Don't count the Rangers out in game 7. All the pressure is on the Caps now.
