Day 1 of the NFL Draft, Highlighted by Sanchez Pick

The Jets got their man by acting boldly, but they may have overpaid at the expense of other areas. New York got to pick Mark Sanchez by making a trade with Cleveland that gave them the #5 pick in the draft. In return, New York sent their first and second round picks and three players, including starter Kenyon Coleman to Cleveland. But, if the Jets are right and Sanchez is a true franchise QB, the trade is worth it. New York just better find someone for him to throw the ball to with their four picks today.

The Giants were patient and they were rewarded when a great player fell to them at #29. Hakeem Nicks is a big and talented receiver who should work well with Eli Manning in the revamped passing game. In the second round New York had two selections and they added some depth to their offense and defense. Linebacker, Clint Sintim, is a pass rusher who comes from a 3-4 defense. Will he be able to transition to the 4-3? Tackle, William Beatty, gives New York a backup for Kareem McKenzie and possibly his eventual replacement. Barring a trade, the Giants will have seven picks to make on Sunday.

So, the Cleveland Browns gave NY a Sanchez?

...there's a joke in there somewhere...

My strategy for choosing an NFL quaterback is to select one froma winning program that played against the toughest defenses in their schedule. Not a guy from a wishy washy conference.
