Beloved actress Bea Arthur has died of complications brought on by cancer in her Los Angeles home at the age of 86. She is remembered most for her Emmy award-winning roles as Dorothy on the 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls and Maude on the Norman Lear sitcom of the same name set in Tuckahoe a decade before. Arthur, born Bernice Frankel in NYC in 1922, had a long stage career on and off-Broadway (including a Tony in 1966) before her late success on the small screen. Arthur will also fondly be remembered as a regular at Friars Club Roasts throughout the last decade—first serving as the punchline of a series of jokes and then delivering some of her own dirty zingers at Pamela Anderson's send-up in 2005. Just last year Arthur was inducted into the TV Hall of Fame. She is survived by two sons and two granddaughters.

Thank you for being a friend Bea.
Thank you for being a friend Bea.
you will be greatly missed Bea. I fondly remember your gift of Maude and Dorothy. Rest in pease. Until we meet again.
I'm hope she's not resting in peas!
best line from one of those comedy central roasts?
jeff ross referring to courtney love and saying 'i wouldn't fuck her with bea arthur's dick.".
RIP, you were great on All in the Family:
"Now you can either get up and come to the dining table for breakfast, or you can stay there on the couch and feed off your own fat."
thank you ms arthur.
TV was a great time then, better with you.
now we have crap like the Unusuals.
She was a true character, not one of these pre-processed, easily replaceable robots that appear on your screen now. It was fun to watch her.
Sweet dreams, Bernice.
Bea may be gone in body, but not in soul. She will forever live in people's consciousness as the many memorable characters she played on TV.
Have a good one, Bea.
