Ever thought about what your bus driver, or the people on your bus for that matter, do when they're not on the job? The NY Times has a story about one bus driver, Christopher Dolan, who has been driving for the city for 27 years and belts out operas on his route. That certainly makes the 2 bucks easier to hand over.
When he was behind the wheel of the M10, he welcomed a serendipitous customer, Vincent La Selva, the artistic director of the New York Grand Opera. Le Selva heard him perform and after advising he retrain his voice because he was not a baritone, Dolan auditioned again as a tenor. While this was last month and nothing has come of it yet, Le Selva told the paper, “He has a very nice voice, an Italianate quality. He needs certain things, but he has very good top notes.”

Good for him if he makes it. We're always bombarded with negative stories (and even more negative comments) here on Gothamist. A nice story is a rare pleasure.

A better deal than the Met, for sure. I guess it is "a" met (ropolitan transit authority bus).
