Turtle Power Lights Up the Empire State Building

This morning Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, aka the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, were on hand in their hometown to light up the Empire State Building and "shell-ebrate” their 25th Anniversary. As night falls and their classic 1990 movie is screened at the Tribeca Drive-In, the green glow of Turtle Power will be cast on the city. (And yes, that's April O'Neil alongside them.)

Also for you TMNT fans, there will be a new live-action film heading your way in 2011.

Has it really been that long?
Wow..I'm old.

So THAT'S why i saw a Ninja Turtle bus outside Jim Hanley's Universe (across 33rd from the ESP) this morning!!

Ok, the phrase is "Turtle Power" not "Ninja Power"...

You know when you're a kid, and you ask your clueless grandparents/aunt/uncle/etc. for a hot new action figure for your birthday, and instead of getting you the cool toy that will bring years of fun and impress the hell out of your friends they get you the Chinatown dollar bin bootleg version with an awful paint job, the wrong accessories, Engrish-laced packaging, and a thick odor of naphtha?

This is what those toys would look like if they grew up.

I remember April being a lot hotter. What happened?

The past 25 years have not been kind...

Who the hell looks good in yellow?

Hmm, I'm sensing some heavy duty flackery was involved in the creation of this article. April O'Neill's outfit is horrifically bootleg. They need to fix that.

Ahahaha I wondered wtf they were doing in the lobby this morning

man, i would totally drink inside if i had to wear one of those doofy costumes.

Sigh. Somewhere deep inside one of my storage boxes are the first few issues of the original comic. They were kind of fun back then, not the kiddie-oriented stuff they became in order to benefit from merchandising. 25 years. Where does the time go?

It seems like most American homeowners are NINJA TURTLES nowadays: No Income, No Job or Assets ..and hiding like crazy inside their shells.
