Hipster Grifter Meets Street Art

0409grifstermovie.jpg

Have you learned to love the hipster grifter story yet? If not, we encourage you to scroll up or down to read another post, and remind you that you're also entitled to a full refund on your subscription fee. Still here? Check it out: This photoshopped movie poster featuring Kari Ferrell was just spotted in Williamsburg, home to her target demographic. This may be good news for Hipster Grifter haters, however; FreeWilliamsburg astutely points out that now this has reached the street art medium, it's officially over... At least until the inevitable Grifster Handbook hits the Urban Outfitters discount book table.

I heard this was based on a true story...

  • WorksInDUMBO

I agree with the others: Who gives a shit? this is such a non-story. This city is full of people who will lie to you and take advantage if you let them. This is not news.

  • jaycjay

    "This is not news."

That's why it's filed under "Arts and Events."

  • irenepereyra

    hilarious

  • GREGORYABUTLER

I said it before here at Gothamist, and I'll say it again - There Are No Free Blowjobs.

Listen - were the "handjobs with her mouth" good?

Did you enjoy throwing your "hotdog" down her "hallway"?

(although, based on the whining, I'd bet there are a lot of Vienna Sausages and Cocktail Franks here!)

So it was worth the cash she took!

Look, fellas, if your dad didn't tell you this, let me - Every Man Pays For It.

And real men don't whine about "she robbed me" - you man up, and move on to the next!

  • BTW

So many hurt feelings from these high-minded Gothamist readers. More tales of grisly murders in the outer boroughs or scintillating reports on local politics PLEASE!!! FOH!!! Let the Hipster Grifter live - this shit is hilarious...

  • marcasm

Is this Stephen Cavanagh challenging Shepard Fairey ? I think he may be responsible for the box of Koreans the other day, looks like Damien Hirst's Shark Attack with a yellow twist ?

  • aydiosmio

I love watching all the useless trolls try to undercut an immensely popular NYC blog. Squirm! Thanks J.C.

I also find the grifter saga mildly amusing, and the effort put into that poster makes it that much more satisfying.

I was hoping she would have found a nice Med Student by now.

  • just saying

You mean the cops still haven't caught her??

  • unsunghiro

something tells me if she were white or black or spanish this wouldn't be covered this way... it's so easy for the awkward asian kid to be the foil

  • dr zippy

The "awkward asian kid" isn't a foil. Foil doesn't even make sense in this case. Who is the protagonist to whom she is being a foil?

The awkward asian kid has served time in Utah for check fraud; is wanted in Utah for passing bad checks, forgery and retail theft; has been accused of defrauding (though of a minor nature) many people in New York; and appears to be a mostly incompetent, and possibly mentally ill, serial liar and grifter.

…you're also entitled to a full refund on your subscription fee.

This is very condescending and insulting to every Gothamist reader. SHAME.

Gothamist makes money from advertisements. The value of every ad buy is linked to daily page views.

    http://www.gothamistllc.com/mediakit/specs_rates.php

And the value of those views are determined by the age and demographics of the readers:

    ">
    http://www.gothamistllc.com/mediakit/demos.php

The page views are caused by Gothamist readers. We actually pay Gothamist by surfing to this site and seeing the ads that only have value because we Gothamist readers are here reading this stuff.

If this site didn't make money from ads, then you'd have a point. But it does. So this website is not "free." Do not spit on Gothamist readers.

  • Smitty025

No, you don't pay anything. Neither do I. The companies advetising pay for the advertisements.

That is, unless I've been missing something all along and a large bill is coming my way.

  • REALITY CHECK

And who pays the ad agencies? And who pays for the products that pays the companies that pays the ad agencies? I recommend this book for you.

Again, if Gothamist were run out of pocket, then they'd have a point. But they aren't, so they don't. If they continue to condescend to the readers, eventually the readers will go away and then Gothamist would have nothing to sell to the advertisers. We, the readers, are Gothamist's money-making product. The companies buying ad space are not paying a single cent for the quality of the reading material, they are paying for the readers who come to the site. We readers come here to read quality stuff, and we have a right to air our grievances without being condescended to, or without facing the stupid argument that the site is some sort of free gift to us, because it is not.

  • captainblackout

    Blah, blah, blah...yawn.

  • squid ink

The hipster grifter stuff is awesome, I hope Gothamist is planning to cover the story until the bitter end. The Kari Ferrell reality TV show that will inevitably follow will be awesome. "Join us as the hipster grifter travels the country, causing hipsters everywhere to ask: 'uh, dude, where'd my trust fund go?'"

  • Huffy6241

I'd be so disappointed being passed that "handjob with my mouth" note, and then looking down the bar and seeing it was from that asian boy at the end of the bar...

  • fishfryin

whoever made this is obviously an emo hipster themselves since they have no idea who kareem abdul-JABBAR is. even the hipster grifter knew

  • jaycjay

Apparently, then, she is not a hipster.
