Hipster Grifter: The Neverending Story

phpaygiNOPM.jpg The ongoing internet trail leading to Kari Ferrell photos and information has now led to a cached MySpace page, which she started under the name "Sylvester Stabone." As one might expect, it's jam packed with sexual innuendo, topless photos and other nonsense. But her past is coming back to haunt her in other ways as well—now firmly settled into Day Six of Griftergate, the fascination with Ferrell-penned notes has reached a new level: eBay! A matchbook from Greenpoint's Coco66 is being auctioned off, with a note reading: "The only meat in my mouth comes on a six foot stick," signed Ping Pong. With 5 days left, it's got 11 bids and is up to a recession-friendly $11.50. There's no way this is getting up to three-figures, but if it does, perhaps Ferrell can be pat on the back for bailing out one hipster at a time.

One more story on this shit and I'm not coming to this site for a week. Between this and Jen Chung's [lack of] grammar lately, this site has been driving me nuts.

Yeah this site is getting hit like the economy.

If you really had a problem with Chung never proofreading and Carlson writing primarily comment-baiting, inane hipster drivel, you'd have stopped reading this site years ago.

It's neverending Jen because you won't end it....

Your still talking about this WTF!?!?!?

Seriously Gothamist, you need to dump Jen Carlson.

this ongoing story is seriously making me hate breathing.

i'm boycotting this site and any other nyc-based news sites until i feel like this might be finished.

Yawn-this story is still drivel on the 6th day... I realize there may be some fascinated by this story-I don't respect them. This city has millions of stories that could be told. Why do we get tales of bar crawling snuggie wearers and this grifter nonsense?

Awesome, keep hope alive!

Why is this girl grifting? She clearly has a huge career writing ironic hipster t-shirt slogans. She could sell them on Etsy and at the brooklyn flea under her line, K-AbJab.

this is what they mean when people worry about blogging not having standards/ethics like print journalism. It's people using the power of media for high school shit like this. all you bloggers writing about are all ugly people.

exactly

so long, gothamist
by eyeballs will go elsewhere

Sorry but I think this story is extremely entertaining. Don't stop.

They keep writing about it because people read it. Coverage of this 'story' = more hits on Gothamist = More people read the other somewhat relevant news on this site.

who has an eBay dummy account. Someone bid like $200k for it so she'll never get paid

"She'll never get paid?" But the person selling it is a "he." Do you think it's really Kari herself, masquerading as someone who was given that matchbook, when actually she just made it herself so she could sell it?

Oh, the intrigue grows!

Come to think of it, I have one of those "Coco66" matchbooks, and no one has even written on it! And only one or two matches are missing. I has to be worth more than the one that has almost all the matches gone and no space left to write a note. What am I bid?

How do we know the matchbook is really from the hipster grifter? Does it come with a certificate of authenticity?

File hipster grifter as irrelevant gothamist (hidden agenda) nonsense along with Poster Boy, Jake Bronnstein and that Patrick Moberg subway-romeo twat with the massive hair.

While you're at it, please retire the picture of the fat kid to the gothamist hall of fame.

I LOVE THIS STOREY TO!!!!! JEN ITS OK IF U DONT HAVE GRAMMER!!!

i don't know what's funnier: this story or some of the reader comments. threatening to boycott gothamist for a week? really?!? can't you just not click on the links or something? i understand that it's all-important for some of you to share Just How Mad you are at jen, etc., but i hear closing your eyes and counting to 10 is way more effective.

Cyber-bullying: (v) "Bullying which is carried out through an internet service such as email, chat room, discussion group or instant messaging."

Dudes, this story is either an extremely immature example of cyber-bullying or an elaborate hoax perpetrated by the author and subject.

Did you get a few more clicks? Yay. Hope you sleep well tonight.

This is guerrilla marketing.

Think so?

I thought gothamist learned their lesson with that retarded Patrick Moberg piece.

This one seems real, sort of.

Though I don't like the fact that one of the posters here knows this girl personally...

So what's next for the grifter coverage?

1) liveblogging and or twitting of her whereabouts.
2) In depth interview with the subway romeo on the grifter situation and his advices on meeting Diane Sawyer.
3) Jen is fired and replaced by the grifter herself.

Enough with the "hipster tipster" stories. Let it die Gothamist.....this isn't news.

People are so passionate about not caring!

Please stop making celebrities out of idiots.

Either Jen Carlson or this dumpy hipster broad better end up dead by the end up the week, or I'm going to be seriously pissed about clicking through these stories.

This is worse than the Curbed/Smart Car/Gentrification watch.

Wow, all you high minded people must come to Gothamist for their brilliant insight into local issues and in depth news coverage. FOH!!!!! Everyone on this site is killing time at work and this is the best story of 2009.

As a fellow hipster Jen, (unless the obnoxious girl mugging from Misshapes all over flickr is someone else), I'm quite amazed you can't grasp the internet enough to surf for better links?

Reality check - when a girl you don't know offers you a 'handjob with her mouth' in a bar, there's ALWAYS STRINGS ATTACHED.

Milton Friedman showed the world that there are no free lunches.

And Kari Farrell showed the hipsters of Williamasburg that there are no free blowjobs!

come on. more stories like this please. i can turn on cnn for the rest.
viva hipster grifter!
