Why would you give cash to someone in the restaurant? Always use your credit card unless you're sitting and eating at the bar.

Why wouldn't you give cash to your server? I would assume the mistake here was not simply using cash, but giving cash to some random dude that appeared out of nowhere.

As I said before more and more "family men" will be be killing or trying to kill their family's. With the current economic situation that is stressing people out this will continue to happen.
