(Fake) Subway Advisory!

This fake advisory was spotted at the Metropolitan G stop recently, and even though it's not real... it's all too realistic. Though perhaps there are more quirky subway incidents that could be added... what other MTA troubles are missing from this passive-aggressive masterpiece?

I never thought they didn't care. I just thought there was a giant MTA conspiracy to make my commute as miserable as possible and guarantee that I will be late to work no matter what I do.

Wait, you mean the MTA hates everyone else too?

The non-functioning PA systems on subways are the most befuddling to me. This was a old joke in the 80s where you couldn't hear a damn thing that was being said. Here we are 30 years later and its still the same for many of the trains, especially on the N/R line. I imagine the reason is because some of the subways are from the 70's, but the fare sure as hell isn't.

Consider who speaks into them!

*Fewer* trains, not "Less" trains.

Its probably ACTUALLY from the MTA. Would not suprise me.

The G seems pretty frequent to me...

It's scheduled to run less frequently than a lot of other lines. For example, average is every six and a half minutes during AM rush, vs 4:00 on the E and F and 3:30 for the L, according to the Straphanger's Campaign. At noon it's ten minutes. There are a lot of other lines running at that same rate, but the ones people tend to transfer to or from between the G tend to be scheduled much more frequently.

I think that's what gives it the reputation that I feel is undeserved. People wait longer for that line than the other train they ride on their commute (since almost no one commutes on only the G), so it's "late." But it really isn't, it's coming when it's supposed to.

It's on-time record is a lot better than most people think: straphangers.org lists it at 89%.

Report is here: http://www.straphangers.org/statesub08/table2.pdf

You should try waiting for the G in Queens sometime. It has some weird schedule like: only on weekends, and only after 9pm on weekdays, or something like that. The MTA has decided that the people of Brooklyn should never see how nice life is in Queens.

Also missing: Be prepared to defend yourself in case of attack/rape/etc., because we won't stop the trains or get out of the booth to help you.

Color me surprised they didn't include a snarky comment about overcrowding specifically on the 4/5/6 during rush hour. I've never seen anything so insane.

And the new 2nd Ave line isn't going to open up until 2015. Only, what, 50 years overdue?

I assume by that you mean "they have already stopped constructing and there will never be a 2nd Avenue line, but they haven't mentioned that yet because they want more money".

It will never happen. Though I'd be pleased to be proven wrong.

Construction is still going on for the 2nd ave subway, amazingly enough. Hard to believe, but I've seen it with my own eyes.

No doubt the MTA had to pony up the dough in advance, those Eurotrash tunnel-borers weren't going to sail over here just to be caught in a game of Albany Roulette.

"Dear MTA rider. In our ongoing effort to supply our customers a more efficient and economical transportation system we request that all riders suggestions for improvement be deposited in the round containers located on the platforms. We can also be reached via email at FUGURIDER@MTA.com. Thank you and have a nice day."

Probably because it's at the Metropolitan top, in G and L territory. Whoever made it likely doesn't ride the 4/5/6.

That was supposed to be a reply to Kinger's comment #8. And 'top' was supposed to be 'stop.'

I love the sign, but the phrase "fare rate" bugs the hell out of me.

This is the first 100% accurate MTA advisory I've ever read.

We put more effort into posting delays and construction notices then doing anything to help make your trip smoother and quicker.

The sign says it all-fuck the MTA

straphangers.org should put up advisories like this based on the stats they gather.

The grammar on that sign is pretty lousy, and it seriously undercuts its effects. If they were going to sink that much time into making a clever prank sign, you'd think they would proofread it well enough to at least catch the word "will" written twice in a row.

Best way to suck the life out of a good post is grammar commentary...

seriously!
just roll with it man...

It makes the sign all the more MTA authentic. Nothing wrong with that. Is there? Is there?
