You didn't think they were just going to disappear into their dorms, did you? New School students, faculty, and supporters plan to hold a rally near Union Square tonight to protest last week's protest, particularly how cops "brutally beat" a student outside the school as the NYPD ended the short-lived occupation. The beating in question was caught on tape, and though it looks more like a smack in the face as payback for yelling "Shame!" at the cops, the New School in Exile group says the student "sustained a concussion and serious wounds to his head and face." They held a press conference yesterday to decry the university's "repression," demand that all suspended students be reinstated, and insist upon the immediate removal of President Bob Kerrey, VP John Murtha, and other officials. Here's video of the presser with more details on the demands that must be met before protesters will even think about hanging up their Keffiyah scarves. Details on tonight's rally are here.

I love the video. That kid flops like a soccer player. His cries of agony are also Oscar-worthy.
He shouldn't have been touched by the officer, but his overreaction is hilarious.
you bet. and if he got a concussion from that impact, he's the biggest wussburger east of the mississippi.
Remember, he was shown being "brutally beaten" in the video according to the protesters' site. Yep. "Brutally beaten."
It can be arugued that he threw something at the officer.
He landed on his own arm/hand. He didn't get a concussion, he got a sore arm.
these kids are such f+cking pussy's these days. After he was down, he resisted.
It can be argued he threw something, by who. A tad late for that BS cop spin. He threw nothing. He did nothing illegal. He will face no charges and we will pay out when he sues and the city settles.
No concussion. So you're a doctor?. Seems a slight bump to the head can be pretty serious, or at least Liam Neeson would agree with me.
He resisted, one problem with your point. He should never have been arrested in the first place. The officer should never have gone over to him.
As for pussy, have you ever have the balls to yell at a cop like that? Seems pretty ballsy to me, however stupid. I mean pussy what does that even mean, he's only as strong as a woman or brave?
Oh come on now... there were tougher crowds at America's Next Top Model auditions... Please kiddies just stop the nonsense-you are going to get hurt. Don't antagonize the police.
That kid was screaming before he was even restrained. The cop shouldn't have shoved him and the kid shouldn't have lost his shit when they were restraining him.
Bad play acting, and caught on tape for everyone to see.
If you are going to try and get someone in trouble for police brutality, it's probably best to wait until they have their hands on you before you cry out.
What has top model got to do with what I wrote. Listen I'm with you when it comes to finding these protests absurd. But police misconduct is always unacceptable in my book. No matter who it happens to Black, white, on a bike, yelling "Shame on you". Cops enforce the law, they don't have the right to punish the offender (couldn't resist). We deserve better and excusing this event will only make more events like it possible. Protect and Serve, CPR; Courtesy Professionalism and Respect. Just words I know, but if they were truly and honestly applied we'd all be better off.
Bottom line for me: cop was outside the law and it will cost all of us when the suit gets settled. And if he stays on the force will there be a camera there the next time he takes things into his own hands. Probably not, but you or someone you know might be.
Third time's a charm?
expel them.
"...particularly how cops 'brutally beat' a student outside the school..."
the only thing that got beat last week was a dead horse. let it go kiddies.
Coming up next week: A protest to protest the protest that protested this protest but not that protest.
Also, can you imagine the emails flying from the New School to Westchester, Connecticut, and Northern NJ? "Mommy, guess what I'm doing tomorrow?"
for serious?
I LOVE how they keep using France as an example.
France has been occupied more time than any other country in history.
Buncha bitches if you ask me.
Can't the New School and NYU kids get together with the tea-baggers to have some sort of super-protest?
Because the vortex of suck and irony they'd create would destroy the world as we know it.
If having a mouthful of balls makes these kids shut up, I'm all for it. Oh, you meant those Republicans from yesterday. Never mind.
Sorry, anybody who claims that guy was "brutally beaten" just lost any shred of credibility they might have had. Makes it very hard to take seriously anything else they say.
I'll be breaking out the popcorn for this. The soft, nubile minds of adult-children + pavement is a surefire recipe for fun.
