5Pointz Mural Goes Up In Tribute To Injured Artist

0409nicolemural2.jpg Following the fall that Nicole Gagne took when the outdoor staircase at 5Pointz collapsed over the weekend, the graffiti artists who are responsible for painting the murals covering the Long Island City building have added a new one in tribute to her.

The mural was completed on Tuesday in honor of Gagne, who is still in critical condition. They tell us they're also planning to put together a fundraiser in the next two months to help raise money to pay for her increasing medical bills.

Meanwhile, the future of 5Pointz is in question, as artists who have studios there fear the building will be condemned. Yesterday, NY1 reported, "Before the building can reopen, the DOB says the owner has to install sidewalk sheds and remove loose concrete."

they are not vandals. Graffiti on this building is legal.

    I hope Nicole recovers.

It is legal. It is also an eyesore.

Eyesore or not, it is a good place to visit when you need to wash the mostly-crap exhibits from PS1 out of your memory.

I love seeing this area every day on my ride into the city. I hope Nicole (and 5Pointz) completely recovers.
