The Mets home opener at Citi Field may have been a loss, but there's a new star: The orange (or tan) cat that ran out during the third inning. Here's film of the feline:

Last fall, Neighborhood Cats said that the Mets should move Shea Stadium's feral cats, who were familiar sights to fans, over to Citi Field. While the team said they would take any cats to a shelter, perhaps the cats made the trip to the new stadium on their own.

He's heading for home! He's SAFE!

Poor little guy looks so scared.

Jen I think you should spin off your own cat blog.

I'm surprised the population of Flushing didn't run out to eat the fuckin thing.

Why does a stadium have cats in the first place?

Man, why do my comments on Gothamist always go haywire? It never formally submits, just says " Thank you. Please wait."

Ugh.

That comment may have nothing to do with race!

Can a man not post a sarcastic internet comment without looking even more like a fool with this double posting problem?

with a quick glance, the guy with the black leather coat looks like Jeter.

Maybe if I had no idea what Derek Jeter looked like.

Why does a stadium have cats in the first place? I'm lost.

For the same reason rooftops have pigeons, dirt has worms, and oceans have fish.

Rats aren't the only thing that gravitate toward places where there's lots of edible garbage.

=^..^= kittehs will alwayz goes where fuds r obvs.

I iz in yur Citifield, stealin yur Shake Shacks!

(Ok, that's enough of that.)

hey I know that cat! his name is sunshine.

I like how the pitcher backs up as if he's afraid the cat might run towards him! Poor guy (the cat)!

Oh kitteh! It does look scared. But I love that Shea had kitties, and now, apparently, Citi does too.

I work across the street in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, and there is a whole herd (pack?) of feral kitties that hang out in our parking lot. They like to sit on warm car hoods. And they're well taken care of, which is good!

I'm telling you, it worked for the '69 Mets, why not this year?!

The Mets deserve to play in a park filled with Fresh Step.
