Top British Cop Exposes "Secret" Al Qaeda-Related Document

2009_04_britcop.jpg Note to the NYPD: Don't let the budget cuts affect your manilla folder inventory! BBC News reports that Metropolitan police terror chief Bob Quick resigned after being photographed—as he was going to 10 Downing Street—"displaying a secret document," which was labeled "secret" and outlined "an ongoing counter-terror operation." Concerns that the operation could be compromised forced the police to conduct raids earlier than planned; 12 men were arrested. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who thanked Quick for his service, said the suspected plot was "very big... We know that there are links between terrorists in Britain and terrorists in Pakistan," and noted that the police operation was "successful." (Remember, the London subway bombings in 2005 prompted the NYPD to institute subway bag checks.) The Independent looks at other embarrassing notes caught on camera, leading with President George Bush's 2005 note, during the World Summit, to Secretary of State Rice: "I think I may need a bathroom break? Is this possible?"

Guess it's not just Americans who suffer from Islam-will-Conquer-the-World panty piddling paranoia. The British are as cowardly as we are.

Yeah those pesky bombings of the London mass transit system can make you so paranoid. Maybe it's don't want some nut case blowing up my bus paranoia, idiot.

The fear of terrorism is grossly overblown. It is a ploy used by fascists and technocrats to destroy our personal liberties in the name of "security." Since you are such a worrier, you should worry about stuff that actually kills tens if not hundreds of thousands of people EVERY YEAR, and just in the US, not even worldwide, such as:

- between 310,000 and 580,000 by cigarette per year.

- 260,000 to 470,000 from poor diet and sedentary lifestyle.

- 85,000 from alcohol

Granted, those are self inflicted deaths. For deaths brought about by others:

- 200,000 die because of those terrorists in white lab coats called doctors: from medical errors - botched procedures, mis-prescribed drugs and "nosocomial infections".

- 75,000 each year die from microbial infections (flu, pneumonia) from the next most dangerous encounter the average American is likely to have: a co-worker with an infection.

- 55,000 die each year from toxic agents like asbestos in our ceilings, lead in our pipes, the stuff we spray on our lawns or pour down our clogged drains.

The terrorism meme is racist and exploitative, a waste of resources, misguided and dangerous. The cure is education and development. Not police and military action, not surveillance and erosion of personal liberties.

"Terrorism is an act of the weak. But so is walking through the airport in our socks."

Want to avoid getting your bus blown up?

Then try to get your government to stop INVADING OTHERS, TORTURING, ASSASINATING, RAPING and MEDDLING in other nation's sovereign foreign affairs.

What is cowardly about successfully thwarting a terrorist plot?

What is cowardly about successfully thwarting a terrorist plot?

Because chances are very, very good that the plot will turn out to have been nothing but a lot of hot air. Just like all the thwarted "plots" in America.

You're right. Counter-terrorism is for pussies.

3000 people died on 9/11. That same year, about 8,000 people died from aspirin use. Why don't we have a war on aspirin?

Idiot.

Oh jesus, you answered your own question - because those are self inflicted you fucking maniac.

"because those are self inflicted"

So by your moronic logic, why do we have a war on drugs?

We have a war on terrorism instead of a war on aspirin (or a war on drunk driving, or a war on medical negligence, or a war on influenza, or a war on slipping in the bathtub) because it generates billions of dollars for the military industrial complex, and it's easy to use xenophobia and racism to garner support from idiots such as yourself and get them to accept the encroachment of their rights for fear of being blown up by evil brown men from the other side of the world, when in fact the risk of that ever happening is lesser than being hit by lightning. Hmmm, maybe we should have a war on lightning too.

"because those are self inflicted" - that was YOUR 'moronic logic' not mine.

"....because it generates billions of dollars for the military industrial complex, and it's easy to use xenophobia and racism to garner support from idiots such as yourself and get them to accept the encroachment of their rights for fear of being blown up by evil brown men from the other side of the world"

At what point did I say anything about supporting military advances? I am as anti-war as they come. I actually agree with Past Taliban above and would rather we had a war on guns and drunk driving. I also agree with you that education would be a better approach.

Look, I was just asking 'Peter' why he thought conducting a counter-terrorism raid was cowardly, I didn't expect to stumble upon any pathological-cunts or EDP's like yourself so I'm just gonna go home before you find a neon light bulb or chair to swing at me.

Why is this story in the Gothamist? I, like everyone else, can look at Google News, CNN, Reuters or some other source for international news. I come to the Gothamist for quirky NYC based stories. Putting national or international news here several hours after it is available everywhere else is just annoying.

America is the terrorist. The world was much better and safer before the US got involved. We caused all these problems now. George Bush was one of the worst dictators ever and we elected him.

Right on. Except WE didn't really elect him; Goldman Sachs, Halliburton & Blackwater did.

Our job is just to stand around the voting booths to make it look legitimate.

Rudy, come back and save us from the contents of that manilla envelope!

What planet are you people on? Too much "V for Vendetta" for you. "Extreme" Islam aims for world hegemony. Even if the whole world backed out of the Middle East, those Islamists will find another excuse to destroy.

All those stats you posted is like comparing apples to oranges.

The cure is education and development.

What if your religion does not believe in education and development; and whatever is written in a particular book by some human(s) can not be questioned else you face the death penalty?
