Williamsburg Walks Returns

Good news, seven blocks of Bedford Avenue will become a pedestrian-only zone again on select Saturdays as Williamsburg Walks returns for the summer.

The Brooklyn Paper reports that cars won't be welcome between Metropolitan Avenue and North Ninth Street on any Saturday during both June and July. Organizer Michael Freedman-Schnapp has teamed up his organization, Neighbors Allied for Good Growth, with the L Magazine for this season, and says, “This is not going be a tube-sock-and-gyro kind of street fair. This is going to be civic space that the community can enjoy." So that's BYO-funnel cakes, people.

Last summer folks got creative and brought things like the Shoot Booth (pictured) to the street, and organizers also recommend hosting barbecues! Coming up on April 27th (7 p.m.) organizers will further discuss plans for this year at the Swingin’ 60s Senior Center.

I don't see anything wrong with this...I wish more communities would do something like that. I know I can't have that in Riverdale because half the population is elderly and the other half is too busy being new parents (myself included).

Is that a collapsible porta-potty in the background?

God walking down bedford is the worst. Especially when the hipsters get out from the train at bedford ave and decide that it's a good spot to just stop once they reach the stop of the stairs to talk and find out where they are going. One of these days i'm going to push one of them back down the stairs. RAGEEEEEEEE!!

oh, and, the only street art i saw was five year olds with chalk.

  • Hipsterminator

The only street art you will see this year is hipsters, who think they are 5 year olds, with chalk.

awesome. williamsburg walks was awesome last year. no "hipster shenanigans," this was organized by local business owners with serious stake in improving their community. it was great to hang out on the street, see little kids running around and playing. it's not like there are a whole lot of public squares in NYC, so it's cool when there's the opportunity to turn streets into plazas.

More lame ass hipster shenanigans, does the NYPD know about this?! I don't want to be forced to endure their "street art"!

That sounds a lot like jealousy rearing its ugly head. Sad that you can't relive your glory days with the hip crowd? Or just bitter that you never had any glory days or were ever hip?

Hipsters aren't hip. They are conformists.

Wait, a post that mentions Williamsburg! Let me be first to use the word:

    "Hipsters."

OK, move on, nothing left to say here.
