Iraqi Court Reduces Shoe Tosser's Sentence

2008_12_lshoe.jpg The Iraqi journalist who threw both of his shoes at President George W. Bush last December received a reduced sentence from Iraq's highest court yesterday. Mutandhar al-Zeidi was sentenced to three years in prison last month, but now a court spokesman said he will face one year, "he's still young and doesn't have any previous convictions." Plus he could be free in five months with good behavior, according to the Daily News. al-Zeidi's family and lawyer are happy with the decision; al-Zeidi had explained the incident as a reaction to Bush's smiling and joking as "a whole people are saddened because of his policy... I was blind to anything else. I felt the blood of the innocent people bleeding from beneath his feet and he was smiling in that way... So I reacted to this feeling by throwing my shoes."

The "bleeding feet" syndrome is always a good defense. But throwing shoes is a pretty serious crime in Iraq.

I wonder if al-Zeidi will be allowed to receive fan mail in prison.

They should reduce the sentence to zero and give him a medal and a hero's parade.

With luck, they'll see him as a hero in the prison and that five months will pass uneventfully. I really wish he had hit the bullseye.

Hey, there's an idea for a Coney Island attraction. "Shoe the Bush." $1 and you get your chance to throw six shoes at a cutout of the former prez.

NY angle? No. Bush derangement syndrome? Yes.

W is gone, we've got lots of other problems and the new guy is not as smart as people wished it in their hearts for him to be (Austrian as a language?).

However, I do understand that your psychic investment in Obama prevents you from even making a regular joke about him, so you will continue to beat a dead horse for as long as you can.

Did you maybe stop to think that maybe what Obama meant to say was "I don't know how you say it in Austria? Everybody misspeaks at times, but your hero was legendary for how pervasive his malaproprisms were. I can guarantee you the term "Obamaisms" will not be entering the lexicon the way "Bushisms" did. People around the world respect Obama as much as they hated Bush, but you'll never get that through your thick skull.

BDS unabated, while Obamateur hour continues: The One bowed to Saudi king & refused Sarkozy's invite to visit American military cementary in Normandy.

He sucks up to Saudis & Iranians, while ticking off old allies. UN's Manchurian candidate, or what?

Keep telling yourself that. Bush will never be vindicated by history. He will always be known as one of the worst, if not the worst president in American history, and no amount of derogatory terms you make up for Obama can ever change that.

By the way, if you want to bring up Sarkozy, how about the fact that he is very much against Bush's beloved Gitmo, saying it's against American values?

Guess things in Iraq can't be too bad if he's getting the same sort of shortened sentence some American and British crooks get.

Geez- I'm wondering if al-Zeidi felt '...the blood of the innocent people bleeding...' when Sadam was running things over in Iraq.

Do you think al-Zeidi would have thrown his shoes at Sadam? I think not- because if he did- Sadam's boys would have cut his balls off and stuffed them into the toes of his shoes!

President Bush- was a somewhat easier target for the 'schmuck shoe -thrower'! What an asshole!
