Baby Lambs Make Central Park Zoo Debut

2009_03_lamby.jpg To counteract the dreariness of the weather, we bring you exciting news about some of the Central Park Zoo's newest residents: Three baby lambs!

The Wildlife Conservation Society says, "Espresso [pictured], a female, was the first lamb born about two weeks ago. Her tiny stature, fluffy coat and diminutive facial features make her a site to see! As her name implies, Espresso’s fleece is a rich, dark coffee color, making her another one of a few black sheep that live amongst her herd. Because she’s still very young, the little ewe spends much of her time alongside mom Mole and exploring the surroundings of her new home." Aw! The two other lambs are boys and "just as adorable as Espresso!" But since they are even younger than Espresso, the WCS hasn't named them the pair, who spend most time snuggling with their moms, Cocoa and Latte. There's a bigger photos of Espresso after the jump.

Now the Central Park Zoo has 12 sheep—you can visit them and other animals year-round. And in other good news, the State Legislature had ensured $9 million in funding for the WCS (but the WCS is still working on a restructuring plan, so consider donating).

You can see them from the street at 5th & 66th - just look over the wall (where everyone else is looking)

6 3/4 cups of mint leaves
5 cups of water
6 tbsp of lemon juice
7 1/3 cups of sugar
2 (3oz) packs of pectin

Boil the mint leaves in the water for 10 minutes. Strain the mint water and save it.
Heat the mint water and lemon juice in a pan. Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves.
Bring the mix to a boil and add the pectin. Stir the mix constantly, boiling for 1 minute before removing it from the heat.
Add the jelly to canning jars while it’s still warm. Apply the lids and steep the jars in 250-degree water baths for 10 minutes to seal the jelly.

they are part of the latest marc jacobs collection: Afgan Lamb Fur!
